Republicans back Joe Lieberman
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/08/20/wlieb20.xml

Senior Republican strategists have thrown a politcal lifeline to Joe Lieberman, the Democratic senator ousted by a Left-wing challenger over his support for the Iraq war, by supporting him through a military veterans group.

Mr Lieberman's 18-year Senate career appeared to be at an end after Connecticut's Democratic primary earlier this month when he was narrowly defeated by Ned Lamont, a millionaire newcomer who ran on the single issue of opposing the Iraq war.

But his new strategy of running in the November Senate elections as an independent candidate who would appeal to Republican voters is already paying off after the White House declined to back the official Republican candidate and a poll last week gave Mr Lieberman a 12-point advantage over Mr Lamont.

In an increasingly bitter election battle, the new Veterans for Freedom group has begun running advertisements for Mr Lieberman and senior Democrats have warned that he risks being shunned by his former colleagues in Washington if he is re-elected. The group hopes to split the Democratic vote in Connecticut - traditionally a staunchy liberal state - and give the Republicans a better chance of winning. All three Republican Congressional candidates in Connecticut have praised Mr Lieberman while failing to endorse their own nominee, Alan Schlesinger. Mr Lieberman's candidacy has also been enorsed by Newt Gingrich, the Republican who once served as House speaker.

1. Who did this reporter get talking points from?
"left wing challenger", "millionaire newcomer", "single issue of opposing the Iraq war". Also, I don't think it is very honorable of the White House or Republican party to decline backing the official Republican. What a bunch of whores they are.

17. The article is not from the Times!
It's from the Sunday telegraph, which is not owned by Murdoch but by the Barclay brothers. To tell you the truth it's actually more RW then The Times but on the other hand it still has a higher standard of reporting then The Times, which is why I post articles from the Torygraph and not the Times.

13. I don't think you can call someone who matches 60% of CTs "left wing"
challenger. Unless CT is some far left state.

2. This really Does Say It All, doesn't it?
Joe, go home! If you win, it'll be a Pyrrhic victory at best; if the Republican candidate wins because you split the vote, your name will be a curse word in political circles for decades.

3. Can someone provide a synopsis of Lieberman's 18-year Senate career
...and just what he has accomplished for the people of Connecticut, for the country and for the democratic party?

<snip>

Lieberman deserved defeat, so what will the Clintons do now?
That's the question that all Democrats who supported Joe Lieberman need to answer.

Joe Lieberman deserved defeat,<.....> "To be 'strong on national security' does not mean supporting the misconceived and incompetently executed policies of the Bush administration. American security in years to come will depend, in fact, on undoing this government’s grave mistakes, which have weakened this country’s military posture and undermined support for us around the world."

The war aside, Lieberman merely poses as a Democratic "progressive." Kari Chisholm of Blue Oregon argues that progressives are wasting their energy "defeating a guy who is better than every single incumbent Republican...", and then cites Lieberman's voting record to prove it. Well, as the Republicans have demonstrated with their "minimum wage vote", voting records don't tell the whole story.

Take the bankruptcy bill, for example, which Lieberman voted against, then boasted about to prove his "progressive" bona fides. Here's the rest of the story:

"You see, Lieberman voted to close debate on the bankruptcy bill--a vote where 41 votes against would have stopped the bill dead. He only voted against the bill on the final passage vote, where 51 votes were needed to stop it. This way Lieberman can truthfully assure his banking-industry contributors that he did the heavy lifting in order to make sure that the bill passed."

At heart, Lieberman is a corporate shill. He has supported deregulation, free trade, globalization --NAFTA, et al--, the pharmaceutical industry, banking, insurance, big energy. He has spoken positively about schools vouchers and social security privatization. On the other hand, in his 18 year Senate career, he has never advocated for national health insurance, perhaps the best indicator of progressive leanings.

4. His spell check must have been broken.
"Mr Lieberman's candidacy has also been enorsed by Newt Gingrich..."

Or maybe it's just his back that is broken, from having his head so far up the conservative asshole.

7. I'll believe that when they abandon their conserv base ..
and subscribe to Independent philosophy..we sure as hell need a balance in this country if ever it was needed ..both the extremist left and extremist right are far to arrogant for improving this country's well being and international reputation.

8. I've got lots of examples of "extremist right," perhaps you can
enlighten me on the make-up of the "extremist left."

There are none in the Senate.

And only a few in the House, although no name(s) springs to mind.

9. The extremist left has no political representation
in this country. Our Congress essentially consists of lots of members of the extreme right, a few token moderate conservatives, alot of centrists (though not enough to offset the extreme right), and a handful of traditional liberals.

The only place you're likely to find members of the extreme left is on some blogs and in alternative book stores.

Ned Lamont is a centrist BTW.

15. Fox News is a Lieberman infomerical
RNC mouth organ Fox News Channel - you think they get a tax deduction for all their RNC in-kind contributions? - has been shilling hard for Lieberman. They say Ned Lamont's race is proof Democrats don't want democracy in the Middle East. No, I'm not making this up.

Check it out at http://www.eyesonfox.org/?p=37.

16. Yeah, with their hands up his ass, Joe is a PUPPET
Here's my latest work all about Joe LIEberman's ridiculous run as a "Party of One", which reminds me of "Army of One" (which gives ME a mental image of a guy stuck under fire in a foxhole, looking around and saying, "WHERE the hell IS EVERYBODY!!") :) -- Makes about as much sense in a marketing vein. Party of One, Translates into "Party of NONE" when it involved LIEberman, might as well be saying, "Party of ME", eh?

This flash also incorporates the fact that the Terror Lockdown on Liquids, etc came so close on the heels of Joe's Smackdown by Lamont as to not be considered credible - even today they are confirming that people will walk FREE because they don't have the evidence to hold them, let alone that there were NO Explosives in their possession, they hadn't even made reservations, etc, etc..

Meanwhile they talk about charging a PREGNANT woman for having some water, and a face wipe - this flash addresses those concerns as well, the fact that WE are being used as PUPPETS in a The Politics of Terror.

Remember, a republican said they'd ride this last nonThreat all the way into November. Let's prove them wrong.. Let's VOTE for Lamont, as we all know this last Primary was a referendum on Bush and his faked "war". The Nerve of LIEberman to shit all over the Democrats. It's like using a girlfriend to get you through medical school and then snatching up the Trophy Wife once you've graduated. How can we ever trust this Puppet again?

One of my best Flash works ever, and to the Tune of "Masters of War" by Mr Bob Dylan, and no truer words were spoken in our time.
