October Surprise? Not!
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 12:20 PM by nradisic
There will be no October surpsrise.
Here's why: After speaking with a number of repukes who still support the Shrub, all of them told me that the most important thing the GOP and Bush have done, is to prevent another terrosrist attack in the US.

If there is another obvious large terrorist attack on the US, even many of those 30% that still support the Shrub all bets are off. Those who still support Bush are ignorant and scared. To them Bush is the protector. If we, God forbid, get hit again - all bets all off. Even the biggest morons will see the light. These are the morons who still cannot see that we are much less safe than we used to be even before 9/11 - How ignorant and out of touch can a human being be?

The GOP might have benefited in the past from scare tactics. I know for a fact that the terror card is now playing the opposite way it used to - it is diminishing support for the GOP.

Payback is a bitch!

1. I think they'll "capture" Osama...
Or someone who looks an awful lot like him right about that time. FOr good measure, they may even "capture" him just as he was about to hatch another huge attack on us.

They'll find something!

2. After 5 years....
After the 09/11 Commission (which this White House fought tooth and nail to be estabished in the first place...and which this White House has basically ignoreed implementing the recommendations of said Commission) after establishing a Department of Homeland Security, after the Patriot Act...after all of that...if there is another terrorist attack, this President and this White House is in seriously deep shit. No Bill Clinton to blame this time. No Demorcratic Congress to pass the buck...it's George W. Bush to solely blame if there's another terrorist attack on this country.

The problem with your political party controlling all the branches of the Federal Governament is that there's no one else to blame.

4. my analysis
is almost the exact opposite

polls make it clear the bush's losing issue is the iraq war

his winning issue is terrorism

imo, another terror attack will crystallize support for him, and consequently for his party. i realize that it might seem that a terror attack will affect him negatively in this respect, but i don't see it that way. i think an attack will swing a lot of voters towards repubs because it will reinforce perceptions of danger from terrorism, where repubs clearly lead in polls. i don't think an attack will lead to blame for bush, as much as further support on this issue

only time will tell of course

6. So you think an "October Surprise" would NOT benefit all the Repubs
running in the Fall? I know Bush can't run again, but he would love to be able to provide some sort of "coattails" for his Party. Gives him "markers" to call in later when he needs to.
