In The George Allen "Macaca" Incident The Person In Question Whom ....
was called this name was supposedly a Dem plant assigned to cover the campaign and document. I hope that we are doing that to all the Repug candidates. I just want to know if they are doing the same to Dem candidates?

Is this something new? or have candidates always had competing party operatives watching their every move/word?

1. from what I understand
he's not really a "plant" in that it's a common practice and both sides know about it.

2. It is common practice
And it's taught in campaign training seminars on both sides.

We got our Repuke incumbent Ginny Brown-Waite (FL5) on video tape earlier this year screaming like a banshee at a constituent, "And why don't you go home and take a bath?! You're stinking up the whole room in there"!

After the primary, it'll be a campaign commercial.

3. See the latest Top 10 Conservative Idiots
This week's begins with George Allen, and includes the line "...the subject of George Allen's embarrassing rant was the person who was there to videotape him in case he made any embarrassing rants."

They do that all the time, send people out to watch the opponent on the trail. It's not a big deal. It is a big deal when, well, see above...

4. He wasn't a plant, he was out there, openly, as a Democratic operative
It is common for campaigns to put oppo types in the crowds. We do it, they do it. The idea is to see what they are saying--the media, as we know, can be VERY selective.

Generally speaking, we do it like this kid did, with a video camera and that's that. They do it with flip flop costumes and all sorts of bullshit, childish theatre in addition to their other putzes.

Yet they get mad about it? The big babies...

6. I believe the title is "tracker"
Most campaigns have at least one.
