THE TWO GEORGES' SPECIAL INTEREST FUNDRAISER

Washington, DC - Today, President Bush will again attend a big-money, closed
press fundraiser, this time for embattled GOP Senator George Allen at the home
of Ed Gillespie, a Bush confidante and former head of the Republican Party.
As a loyal rubber-stamp, Allen has voted in
the Senate with President Bush 97 percent of the time. Tonight’s event is Bush’
s thank you for a job well done. Yet, while Allen consistently votes with the
President, he refuses to fundraise in public with him.

Allen, a potential 2008 GOP presidential candidate, is struggling in his
campaign to win re-election to the United States Senate. According to the
latest Survey USA poll released on Monday, Democratic nominee Jim Webb was
within only 3 points of Allen. As recently as June, Allen had a 19 point lead
over Webb.

“Tonight’s event is designed to raise thousands in special interest cash and is
Bush’s thank you for Allen’s continued support,” said Democratic National
Committee Press Secretary Stacie Paxton. “By holding a big-money fundraising
event at the home of a Bush confidante and inviting President Bush himself, it
is clear that George Allen stands with special interests and not with hard-
working Virginians.

“President Bush should condemn the controversial and offensive comments made by
Senator Allen towards a staffer of his opponent. Allen himself has yet to
apologize to the staffer. By failing to speak out and continuing with
fundraising as usual, President Bush and Senator Allen are sending a strong
message about the true values and priorities of Washington Republicans.

“The people of Virginia deserve more than a rubber-stamp for President Bush’s
failed policies. Strong Democratic leaders like Jim Webb are offering a new
direction for Virginia’s families, including a new strategy for victory in
Iraq, robust homeland security policies, a first-class education system and a
health care system that works for all Americans.”

1. It goes without saying that the chump chimp in chief
lacks a deft touch.
And the republiclowns interpret it as a "fresh outlook."
