http://www.mauinews.com/story.aspx?id=22632WAIKAPU – With the Democratic primary contest for Senate heating up, U.S. Rep. Ed Case hopes the fiery topic of the Iraq war doesn’t inflame the September primary election. Case addressed the most divisive topic between incumbent Sen. Daniel Akaka and himself by saying he’s looking at issues beyond the Iraq war.
“No election should hinge on any one issue,” Case said. “While it’s a crucial issue, it’s clearly not the only issue. One way or another, the Iraq (war) will be finished in the next few years.” Case and Akaka are sharply opposed on the appropriateness of the war.
Akaka voted against authorizing the military intervention in Iraq and has called for a clear commitment to begin withdrawing U.S. military forces from the war-ravaged country. Case says he would have voted to authorize the war and firmly holds that the U.S. has “a remaining commitment in Iraq.” Any talk of withdrawal is “naive and unwise . . . a mistake.”
<edit>... Akaka voted against the Patriot Act and against the War. We need help from all DU members to re-elect Senator Akaka!
