Poll question: Why we should give Bush another couple years as President after his term
I'm all for firing him this second, but since some knuckle-dragging idiot thought it would be a good idea to have Chimpy have four more years, I figured it might actually be a good solution...because...

1. I can't even joke about this...
He needs to be gone yesterday. And, Cheney and the rest of his mob need to go with him -- the sooner, the better.

3. Starting the draft will allow him to start more wars we can't finish
so please change that one.

The only reason we haven't invaded both Syria and Iran is because the military is already stretched to the breaking point.

No boots on the ground means NO MORE WARS.

People in the heartland will have a kneejerk reaction in favor of anything the military wants. Their kids will do all the dying, the rich kids will NEVER have to serve (except as officers in the US or safe posts in Germany), and all arguments in this vein in favor of a draft are bogus.

Some of us are old enough to know what a draft is REALLY LIKE. NEVER AGAIN!

4. I think the quickest way to stop the wars would be to start the draft
Make sure no one can dodge...you can bet there would be outrage....people would finally take it to the streets...

If Viet Nam didn't have a draft, we'd still be fighting there...

5. Then you would be WRONG
Listen to those of us who remember how it was. It will NEVER be fair. People in the heartland will NEVER reject it, no matter how many children it costs them.

You want to build SUPPORT for a dozen more wars, send drafted kids from the heartland. That's how it works.

7. Since there is already a back-door draft anyway...still...
If in fact the idea of starting a draft began you can bet enough Repugs would join in and demand an end to the war...it wouldn't get as far as Nam.

People would rise up...I'm afraid we need that kind of shock to wake the sleeping masses from their myopia.

6. 30,000 Americans died in Vietnam AFTER the draft began.
That's NO solution, as anyone who lived through those years of protests remembers.

The whole reason we had so many soldiers die was because there was a draft and an almost limitless supply of fresh bodies for the war machine. The reason we FOUGHT to end the draft was because the draft made it too easy to start wars.

8. If a Repug voted for the draft, they would get destroyed by their...
...constituents.

I'd love to see a Repug come on TV and say that we need a draft. It would be political suicide. Thanks to the protests during the Viet Nam era, a draft (not the back-door draft we have now) would be nearly impossible.

I know several Repugs who have sons who support Bush...and every single one of them would be against a draft. They would take it to the streets with the rest of us.
