come on for a literary discussion about the books he's read and the lessons he's learned from them. Hell, get Laura the Librarian on with him and they can unveil a new program for literacy or something.

(I found this idea on another website in a remark from a poster. I thought it was the perfect response to all this propaganda the the White House is 'hurling' at us.)

1. But could Oprah
stand having him that close to her for any length of time. What if he wanted to massage her shoulders? (shiver)

5. She managed to survive
his hugging and kissing her on her program during the 2000 campaign.

11. Yes. But Bush managed to blindside her by striding out and

unexpectedly hugging and kissing her. (Gore, showing proper respect for a woman who was not a personal friend, greated her in a restrained and respectful manner.) She never really gained control of the interview. Was Karl Rove hiding behind the curtain?

In the end, it didn't matter whether Oprah's interviews helped or hurt, since Gore won anyway, only to have the election stolen.

2. What do you think the odds would be that he would dare accept?
A few of those tomes and they definitely qualify as tomes, no light reading they, cannot conceivably be entertaining. Seed a few Lit grad students in the audience to serve as ringers and ask weighty questions...

3. I doubt anyone is swallowing the baloney that * reads books like that.
He might read books like How To Pedal Your Mountain Bike Faster, you know, right before lights out at 9:30pm, but I doubt even his permanent fan club thinks he reads at all. It's one of the things that they just wuv him for.

And ha, I like your word choice of 'hurling'. It certainly is the perfect response.

4. What disturbs me about the whole book thing is...
He should have been a voracious reader before entering public office. The president doesn't have time to read, fish, clear brush etc. Bush is trying to change his image but it is way too late. I want a president that enters the office with intellect, intellectual curiosity, and common sense. Bush has none of these qualities and a million books couldn't change that. He is a simpleton.

15. That's not fair.
Bush is still working on completing his first book - something about Jack and Jill. Give the guy time for hell sakes.

16. Bad idea.
Unless she's willing to go for the jugular. Oprah's been too nice. I presume it's because she doesn't want to get political and alienate half her audience. But she's certainly one who's perfectly positioned to offer enlightenment. She'd probably fall victim to his "aw-shucks, good ol' boy" hugs, kisses, and in honor of the German Chancellor - an unauthorized shoulder rub. I think it's too risky unless we had any way to know what her line of questioning would be. I'd be afraid she'd give him too much of a pass. What she SHOULD do is give him the same treatment she gave the author of "A Million Little Pieces" after he was exposed as a fraud.
