--Time magazine generously helps John McCain portray himself as a straight-talker: The mag says that McCain's recent assault on President Bush for convincing the nation that Iraq would be a breeze shows that McCain is "flashing his independent credentials." But the Time piece conspicuously fails to mention that McCain in the past has himself repeatedly made similarly rosy predictions.
