Announcing a day of mass resistance: October 5th

The Call to Drive Out the Bush Regime!

Flyer: http://www.worldcantwait.net/flier/thecall.pdf

YOUR GOVERNMENT, on the basis of outrageous lies, is waging a murderous and utterly illegitimate war in Iraq, with other countries in their sights.

YOUR GOVERNMENT is openly torturing people, and justifying it.

YOUR GOVERNMENT puts people in jail on the merest suspicion, refusing them lawyers, and either holding them indefinitely or deporting them in the dead of night.

YOUR GOVERNMENT is moving each day closer to a theocracy, where a narrow and hateful brand of Christian fundamentalism will rule.

YOUR GOVERNMENT suppresses the science that doesn't fit its religious, political and economic agenda, forcing present and future generations to pay a terrible price.

YOUR GOVERNMENT is moving to deny women here, and all over the world, the right to birth control and abortion.

YOUR GOVERNMENT enforces a culture of greed, bigotry, intolerance and ignorance.

Sign the Call to Drive Out the Bush Regime:

This call is not a petition, but a commitment to change the course of history.

People look at all this and think of Hitler - and they are right to do so. The Bush regime is setting out to radically remake society very quickly, in a fascist way, and for generations to come. We must act now; the future is in the balance.

Millions and millions are deeply disturbed and outraged by this. They recognize the need for a vehicle to express this outrage, yet they cannot find it; politics as usual cannot meet the enormity of the challenge, and people sense this.

There is not going to be some magical "pendulum swing." People who steal elections and believe they're on a "mission from God" will not go without a fight.

There is not going to be some savior from the Democratic Party. This whole idea of putting our hopes and energies into "leaders" who tell us to seek common ground with fascists and religious fanatics is proving every day to be a disaster, and actually serves to demobilize people.

But silence and paralysis are NOT acceptable. That which you will not resist and mobilize to stop, you will learn - or be forced - to accept. There is no escaping it: the whole disastrous course of this Bush regime must be STOPPED. And we must take the responsibility to do it.

And there is a way. We are talking about something on a scale that can really make a huge change in this country and in the world. We need more than fighting Bush's outrages one at a time, constantly losing ground to the whole onslaught. We must, and can, aim to create a political situation where the Bush regime's program is repudiated, where Bush himself is driven from office, and where the whole direction he has been taking society is reversed. We, in our millions, must and can take responsibility to change the course of history.

Acting in this way, we join with and give support and heart to people all over the globe who so urgently need and want this regime to be stopped.

This will not be easy. If we speak the truth, they will try to silence us. If we act, they will try to stop us. But we speak for the majority, here and around the world, and as we get this going we are going to reach out to the people who have been so badly fooled by Bush and we are NOT going to stop.

The point is this: history is full of examples where people who had right on their side fought against tremendous odds and were victorious. And it is also full of examples of people passively hoping to wait it out, only to get swallowed up by a horror beyond what they ever imagined. The future is unwritten. WHICH ONE WE GET IS UP TO US.

2. Thanks for posting this!
The last one of these that I participated in was on Nov. 8th and it was local. I guess I'll try again to stir up some agitation.

5. Some powerful names on that list:
US Rep. Maxine Waters
US Rep. Bobby Rush
US Rep. Major Owens
US Rep. John Conyers Jr.

Jonathan Tasini (Future Senator, NY)

Some of my favorite Democrats!!!!!

I hope some other elected officials of the Democratic Party find the spine to STAND and voice their opposition to the bush*/Republican agenda!!
A few Democratic Senators would be powerful (though opposition to bush* is little too much to ask from a Democratic Senator). The Opposition Movement could unify behind the right Opposition Democratic candidate.

There are some other powerful voices on the list, but my first look was for elected Democratic Leaders.

6. Thanks from me too!... I have to get my protest sign ready
I think it's great that "worldcantwait" wants to have a day of mass resistance. We should have had one January 20, 2001, and if we lose in November, we should go ballistic.

The one thing that bothers me is that this organization who rightfully hate Bush, also seem to hate democrats. They have a link called "top ten reasons NOT to put your money and resources into the democrats". To be honest, I have been mad because I feel Dem's waste money on commercials showing ostriches heads in the sand while their opponents have a way of driving a stake through the heart of a decorated veteran.

We really have to work at getting the word out to average Americans. People constantly hear TV talking heads say "democrats are useless". I don't know how many young voters think Democrats are in power and we have to vote republican to make changes.

We simply have to tell the truth. Republicans have ran our country to the ground for the last six years. And, we need to become the majority in order to hold this White House accountable.

 Forgive me for my rant.

Your post was great! It's nice to see so many endorsements to get rid of Bush!

7. Honestly, what can be done?
That looks and sounds great, but how practical is it? Going under the assumption that the GOP will rig the '06 and '08 elections, what can we really do? We can protest and march until we're blue in the face, but at the end of the day, the fascists will still be in power. I don't think for one minute that the emperor is going to look out the White House, see thousands upon thousands of people demanding him to step down, and decide to abdicte the throne on his own.

8. I'm with you.
"If we don't hang together, than most assuredly we will hang seperately." Ben Franklin

The Bu*h administration and their economic mysticism have put in motion the vehicle for the destruction of our country.

These fascists are crazier than shithouse rats.

Soon, the economy is going to decline to the point where it will cause a large number Americans to feel the pinch of genuine hunger for the first time since the Great Depression.

And the worst enemy you can make is somebody that has nothing left to lose.
