"Had enough?" I think the answer's getting increasingly clear |
|
The shrillness of the diehard Republican true believers is less shrill.
The faith in our government by the average apolitical-but-dutifully-inclined-to-vote citizen is shaken. They're about to be subjected to several weeks of 'tragedy retrospectives' - stories on Katrina and 9/11. The failures of government cannot be missed by anyone. No doubt the Republicans had hoped this would be two weeks of Rah Rah. Not happ'nin' Hoss.
The stockmarket continues to trade in a narrow range. It is, in actuality, virtually stagnent and has been since the Republican occupation began. Gordon Gecko has moved everything into Euro-denominated bonds. Whispers of 'crash' are getting a bit louder.
Real estate speculators are now speculating about something new - the size of their losses as the housing market takes a powder. Ordinarily this would be a buyer's market, which would allow for some stop loss safety; the 'buyers', meanwhile, are worried about buying their next meal. How long until HGTV starts doing "Building with Refrigerator Crates"?
Got milk? Food prices are up, up, up, owing mainly to fuel costs associated with transportation. Powdered skim, anyone?
Sick? Fugghetaboutit. Buy some asprin and deal, Mr. and Mrs. Uninsured.
Terrorized? You better be. The whole fucking world hates our guts. And they're laughing at us. All the while, our Keystone Kops security forces are busting six wannabes in Miami while the Brits bust a gang early because the Republicans needed some political cover. DHS, meanwhile, is squiring some fruitcake back from Bangkok to face ..... never mind.
There's really no good news anywhere.
None.
Had enough? I think the country has had *more* than enough. And I think there will be hell to pay come November.

1. I agree and hope you are right H2S. |
|
However, my belief in the stupidity of our fellow citizens is as of yet unshaken.

3. I think everyone has had enough but I fear |

that voter apathy may take over. A lot of people have given up on it all and I think we may have an unbelievably low voter turn out. Repukes because they are becoming disillusioned, Dems because they feel their voice doesn't count and Diebold is going to determine the outcome anyway.

..... Dems are energized, the lights are on in many of the formerly shadowy central tabulating rooms, and the populace is PISSED.
Republicans might stay home, but I think Dems will be out. I also think the formerly uninvolved will be out.

And don't say you're being a realist.
We either fight to a win or we crawl home and stay in a fetal position. I'll fight, thanks.
