Family of Iraq Casualty to Sue RevFreddieFelps
It was reported on a local Baltimore 11PM newzcast that the family of a local Iraq war casualty will sue Phelps and his band of hate mongering gypsies. The essential point of the suit is that the protest (which, if memory serves me, was screened from the family's view by a phalanx of bikers) caused the familiy's memory of their son's final moments will be forever tainted by the hatred of the protesters.

I can't find a link, even on the teevee station's own web site or on other local teevee station sites.

5. Who said it was illegal?
The suit is for some sort of emotional distress, so they said on the teevee. One can file a civil lawsuit against someone else for having a bad haircut.

And what's your point?

9. You can't sue just because of distress. There has to be
...a law allegedly broken or the judge will throw the case out.

17. Intentional infliction of emotional distress
There's a difference between a civil suit and a criminal suit. Criminal suits are brought by the government when a law has been broken. The guilty defendant is at risk for a fine or imprisonment. A civil suit is brought usually by a private citizen or company for a legal wrong (tort) that does not rise to the level of criminality. No law needs to be broken to initiate, sustain or win a civil suit. The defendant in a civil suit for tort is at risk for monetary damages.

Causes of action in civil suits include quantifiable damages like loss of property or incurring of medical bills. These are called economic damages. For other damages, such as defamation of character or intentional infliction of emotional distress, or loss of enjoyment of life, the damages are not quantifiable, and are usually called non-economic damages. While it can be difficult to sustain a civil suit for solely non-economic damage, there are plenty of cases where a money judgment has been rendered against a defendant for non-economic damages alone.

14. The Westboro Baptist are disgusting knuckledragging, homophobes
I've ridden on over 20 Patriot Guard Riders Mission run supporting the families of fallen soldiers in the past year. We've encountered these disgusting neanderthals several times. I do know that they are being sued over a security bill they racked up in Illinois. They told the police that they were going to be there and would need protection. The police hired the overtime and the WBC cowards did not show up. The county is suing them to recoup the cost of extra security.
A couple of videos of these nutcases can be found here:

in person. I can't believe that anyone takes this dirtbag seriously. Of course his entire church is comprised of all his inbred offspring. The whole lot of them have serious psychological issues.

16. A couple of things .....
.... first .... the HANNITY & colmes video shows the ONLY time I've ever been in agreement with the insane Mr. Hannity.

Second ..... the Patriot Guard you mention in your post .... would that be the group on bikers who stood between the funeral for the guy in the OP and the nutters from Phelps' group? As I said in the OP, there was a phalanx of bikers using their bodies to screen the services from the religiously insane protestors.

I've been to more funerals this year as a member of the PGR than I can keep track of. Whether anyone agrees with this stupid war or not the sacrifices of these families and our young soldiers must be honored. It is a very draining and emotional experience, each and every one of the. Since last October when I began riding with the PGR I have faced down these moron four times.

20. You have my respect
Really.

I couldn't agree more that, no matter one's view of the war, the warriors are who they are and they deserve our support and respect. Thank you for doing what you do.
