That is the price per gallon I saw at the Wawa here (Richmond Va.) this morning.
That price has dropped 10 cents in the last week.
Gee I wonder if that has anything to do with there being an election coming up.... well let me put it this way I am not going to be scared away from being suspicious. If the API and all the Big Oil machinery can at least take that issue off the table they will.
Let's not kid ourselves about it. The "oh everything is not a conspiracy" and "Oh they wouldn't really do that" excuses don't work anymore on me. They operate in the margin that you and I leap over to try to determine the HOW and WHY of an issue. It is a great strategy because it allows for a political playground completely devoid of inspection and discussion.
Look for prices to keep coming down even though they are going off the summer blends (a tried and true excuse that the API uses when prices go up).

4. Not to burst your conspiracy bubble, but gas prices usually do drop |
|
as Labor Day approaches as a result of lower demand. Most schools are back in session by the last week of August, so vacation driving usually begins to slack off by mid August. Also I believe the oil pipeline problem in Alaska did not pan out as being as serious as was first thought, so oil prices actually began backing off in the last couple of weeks. In any case, I think it is too late for the Republicans to benefit from lower gasoline prices. People are going to remember this as the summer of $3 gasoline - and there was no hurricane to blame it on. Republicans will pay a political price for that in November.

6. NO, that is simply because |
|
production has come back on line in Iraq, the Gulf and Alaska, and since we are such good friends with other big oil producers and refiners like Venezuela, Iran and Russia.
Wait. That's not true?
Oh.
Never mind.

7. It has really fallen since the "end" of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon |

Market worries about stuff in advance, sees war is coming, but when Iran and Syria refuse to go along with the plan for a region-wide war, gas prices begin to fall because market no longer frets about acute shortages of ME petroleum.

Repeat that as often as you can.

I had a discussion with a friend (Repub) who was fussing about why diesel is still $ 2.99. He said it was the environmental regulations. Everyone else in the room agreed it was with me, its because he HAS to pay it. Diesel is used primarily by people who have no choice, it is their vehicle they work out of. He can't chose to car pool or use public transportation. He's an electrician & drives a large diesel pickup truck that he hauls tools and equipment with. They have him by the short hairs basically. You could have heard a pin drop.
Later he brought it up again, he swore up and down high gas prices are because of EPA rules prevent them from building more refineries. I said they don't want to increase production, its how they manipulate supply. I then asked him about the recent energy bill that basically cut regulations and gave away federal land to build them on. He changed the subject and got another beer.
