McCain to speak at Conservative conference
LONDON (AFP) - Republican Senator John McCain will deliver a speech at the annual autumn conference of the main opposition Conservative Party next month, newspapers have reported.

McCain, one of the most influential members of the US Senate and a leading contender for the White House in 2008, will speak on the opening day of the conference, according to The Times.

The Financial Times reported that while McCain had agreed in principle to speak, he had not indicated which day.

The Financial Times said McCain's appearance underlines "the restoration of the party's international credibility" after being ousted from office in the 1997 general election.

2. The Tories just may (ironically) win..
just because the voters are so fed up with Blair doing the bidding of the American Republicans ever since Bush was elected.

Of course, the Tories will more-than-likely do the same thing; but I can't see that it will help their electoral chances to make it that blatant!

In any case, while those UK-ers who are interested enough in American politics to post on DU do know who McCain is, he is hardly a well-known or influential figure for British voters in general. I do wonder what the game is.

3. Well, I imagine what he wants to do
is treat conservatism like some sort of sacred belief, and then remind them that Bush and Blair still are Conservatives and that they need to build their image by supporting US GOP.
