A neighbor commented on my "Impeach Bush" bumpersticker
on my car today when I was at the condo mailboxes collecting my mail. I had not met her before. She asked where I got the bumpersticker and then started ranting about how awful * is. I told her that I got it at a big demonstration in DC. I then told her that there is something that she can do to support impeachment, she can vote for our state's Democratic Senate candidate Jean Hay Bright (D-ME). She then said Olympia Snowe is worthless. I got the feeling that she was not familiar with Jean or her campaign and she was definitely interested in the opportunity to vote against her. She walked off repeating Jean's name. Lack of monetary resources has affected name recognition in this campaign (we're up against Olympia Snowe's huge war chest). This was a real demonstration to me of the deep down understanding that something is very wrong in this country and that folks want to vote for change. If voters know they have a choice they will vote for real change and progressive values. I've had lots of comments from others about my bumper sticker (all positive towards the bumpersticker and expressing the same outrage). I don't know how much of a difference I can make in this campaign in which we're total underdogs but I can at least try to impact voters one at a time.

3. Nice job, it's the grassroots effort that will make a difference.
Your conversation with your neighbor will give Jean Hay Bright that as well as get her name out to other people with whom she (your neighbor) talks.

You've started the ripple. Thanks. :-)

4. I was under the impression that Snowe
wasn't all that bad as far as Republicans go. Just out of curiousity, what is she doing wrong?

5. Well for starters
she's pro-war and has voted with the RepubliCONS 82% of the time. She's voted for the horredous bankruptcy bill written by the credit card industry, against minimum wage, for tax cuts for the wealthy and for Alito, has rubber stamped things like wiretapping Americans, etc, etc. On the other hand she has carefully nurtured an image of "independence". Any criticism of the * regime has been very, very, very tepid. She has enabled them and if there are investigations and a vote for impeachment you can be darn sure she will not vote for it. Is that enough?

10. Thanks for that information.
I had always thought of her as a "good one", along the lines of Jim Jeffords. And compared to those other Reptilicans, she probably is. But I wasn't aware of the above.

20. It's not original with me. I had first seen it on DU a while back.
I LOVE it too, and try to use it appropriately ... ie: to distinguish between "regular" Republicans like Ms. Snowe, and non-mammalian CREEPS like DeLay and Frist. In this instance, I got carried away and used it "inappropliately". I suppose I owe Ms. Snowe an apology, but from what I had seen on this thread, she no longer deserves the relatively high regard I had once held her in.

I'm from the other end of the country, but I'll be watching this particular election with great interest.

7. Bumperstickers do have an impact
I have a "Support the troops impeach Bush" sticker on. When I get a positive comment I pull out a spare from the glove compartment. It is a good way to make a friend and get the word out. Peace, Kim

12. Koolaid stickers
I have a deck of KoolAid stickers. When I see a W04 or a Bush/Cheney2004 sticker on the back of a vehicle, I slap one of these KoolAid stickers right next to it. One lady with a Lexus and a "Boycott France" sticker on it has had her Koolaid sticker for months now. LMAO

I've been leafleting cars with those w04 and bush/cheney stickers on them. I got it off the internet and just added a paragraph in the middle (and btw - WELCOME TO DU!!!):

Dear friend and fellow American:

I know how much you support President Bush and the war effort in Iraq. But I noticed that you haven’t signed up to fight yet. It might be because you are too busy, or maybe you just didn’t know how easy it is to join! I know you probably feel guilty about sending other young men and women off to die in your place, so I am sure you’ll take this opportunity to do the right thing:

Sign up for a tour or two in Iraq today!

You will enable some poor soldier who’s stuck there, exhausted, scared, isolated, frustrated, thirsty, poorly supplied, insufficiently armored, under constant threat, lied to about why he’s there and when he’s going to be released, and yearning to come home – to do just that: come home!

What could possibly be more patriotic?

What better way could there be to prove your devotion to President Bush?

“…And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the U.S.A.”

22. I like this.
I've often thought about leaving something on those few cars I still see in parking lots around here with w stickers. They're probably the hard core types (John Dean called them authoritarian personalities) who are irredeemable, but I can't resist the idea of letting them know how they look to the rest of us normal (nonreptilian) human beings.

16. You have to hope other people feel as I do when they go into the
voting booth. I know little about some of the local candidates because I'm so fixated on national politics, but I know one thing: someone would have to put a gun to my head to get me to pull a lever marked Republican.

23. I also have a conservative neighbor
We hadn't talked much the first 5 years or so but we have begun to chat in the last year or so because she started asking me political questions. As surprised as I was, I have tried not to get too emotional. This is a big born again, home schooling, abortion is murder fish I'm trying to catch. I must give her a little slack then reel her in.

No kidding, she is the last person I thought I could ever discuss politics with, but, as I said, she has changed in the last year. I tested this theory by telling her that I protest with Code Pink every Wednesday night. Her reaction? She said she respected it and she might even go with me sometime! Wow! But, it gets better. I decided, about 6 months ago, to see if she was serious. This would be THE ultimate test to hook this fish once and for all; I asked her if she would like to borrow my DVD of F911.

Did she 'take the bait'? You betcha! Hook, line and sinker! She and her husband have watched it...twice. :applause:
