I learn so much hanging out here at DU......... |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-02-06 11:20 AM by TheDebbieDee
For instance, even though I didn't know all the particulars and details regarding "State's Rights", I had heard the term bandied about on tv talk shows. And I always assumed that a discussion regarding the individual states' rights to either ban or to continue to allow legal abortion was about to occur.
It was just in the last several months that I figured out the "State's Rights" term was a buzz word that repukes use to describe the creation of new "Jim Crow" laws that would make it legal for states to discriminate against people of color, in defiance of the US Constitution.
But I could learn a lot more if some of the posters here were more interested in educating as opposed to belittling their fellow posters.

1. The concept of States Rights is pretty much |
|
covered in the public schools. The concept is used by different people at different times for different things. There is a new challenge to the concept now, in that there is a push in Congress to allow the administration to commandeer the National Guard in any state under broader circumstances than is currently prescribed.
Naturally, the Governors are opposed.
Which party is more pro "states rights' is often relative to which party is in power (and by how much) at the time.

I've been called a "freeper". I've been told that my Signature is "offensive".
I've even had a post targeted as a "freeper gun" candidate.
You won't find a more Progressive person here, but when someone disagrees with me (and others as well) then the wrath of DU comes screaming.

3. You didn't have your facts straight about what Howard Dean has done |
|
for the DNC. So, if you post something criticizing Dean you could at least have done a Google on Carville's statement giving a link to the quote and another link to the Howard Dean comments you found "silly."
If some DU'ers jump on you it's because you didn't do your homework before you came out and blasted Howard Dean and tried to use a paid political operatives comments to boost your post which made no sense.
Welcome to DU....it's a good place to learn if one does homework, too. :hi:

4. I've learned that here @ DU you will find dems fighting, and searching |
|
for the honest truth. It is difficult to get to, and can be frustrating to uncover. When a different thought is posted it must go through the test of fire. Hang in there and be glad we won't accept anything we hear as gospel.
Remember, this is a guarded and yet open forum. Enter with strength, compassion, factual backup, and patience.
Welcome to Democratic Discussion. :dem:
