Bush brothers are hanging Mrs Chad out to dry

By Francis Harris in Washington
(Filed: 04/09/2006)

For many Democrats, Katherine Harris is the Cruella De Vil of American politics, a smiling assassin whose oversight of the Florida recount handed George W Bush the White House in 2000.

For many Republicans, memories of that political dogfight six years ago are precisely the reason she should be elevated to a more prominent national role.

<snip>
The Bush dynasty has done everything in their power to block Mrs Harris’s campaign.

Their very public falling out has caused a disastrous public split in a party normally known for ruthless discipline and ensured that the Democrats will hang onto what might have been one of the senate’s swing seats.

All year, the Bush clan has tried to get Mrs Harris to withdraw. President’s Bush’s right hand man, Karl Rove, even chaired meetings to find an alternative candidate.

When that failed, the president’s brother, Florida’s Republican governor Jeb Bush went public with his doubts.

1. WHEN are they going to learn
that NONE of them can be trusted? They are USED until they are not needed any more.

3. So Unfair To Harris
after all, she is taking all the blame for the 2000 fiasco, when you know it was Rove & the Bush brothers who orchestrated it, she was just a patsy. They owe her better.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want her to succeed, but the way they've treated her is shameful, even for them.

I would say lie down with dogs, get up with fleas - but I don't want to insult canines, or fleas.

12. I see your point, but I think they would much rather have her appear
Batshit-crazy. That way, if she goes psycho on them threatening to spill the beans, they can point to that batshit crazy "no separation of church and state" thinking weirdo over there! How can you believe her? Although I would like to see her snap and do a 60 Minutes blowing the whistle expose'.

14. Jeb's Approval Rating Is 58%
That's statewide. In Florida, Dubya's approval rating is 38%. Harris' approval rating is 17%.

Now this was just this past week, so it was after Harris' bat crap crazy remarks re: church & state, but you can't imagine her approval ratings have been higher than Dubya's for a long time.

So the question is, why are Jeb's ratings so high? I think he had at least as much to do with what happened in 2000. Honestly, I don't know what's the matter with my state.

15. A little money in all the right places helps those polls.
Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 11:19 AM by leesa
I don't understand why people assume polls are any more honest than newspapers. They can be purchased and manipulated for the highest bidder.

Once you produce the poll showing you are popular, quite often people believe you ARE popular and think THEY like you too.

9. Kind of an odd statement, isn't it?
Because after all, her client as the Secretary of State for Florida in 2000 was not the Bush family, it was the voters of Florida . . . all of the voters of Florida. And if she was actually working for the Bush family from her elected post, as her "supporter" says she was, it sort of makes the result look, you know, suspect.

5. Ya know Katherine, you can really get sweet revenge on your former masters
By rolling over and telling us all you know about how you helped select the Chimperor.

I bet I could even help round up a few bucks as a reward for you, to help replace your fortune you squandered on your hilariously inept race.

Hell, the entertainment value of your campaign alone is worth $20 to me.

And Kate, I am STILL dying to know....why in the fuck did you buy a $400 possum and what did you do with it?

6. She was used and tossed by the "Bushes"
She gave W the election against the majority of voters of our country, he and his family now disses her.

Don't feel the least bit sorry for her. She knew what she was getting into.

My only regret is that it took 6 years for her to get her comeuppance.

8. It's like you said the other day Katherine, God chooses our leaders.
You (presumably) are confident that God chose you to lead the people of Florida. When you lose, the reason is the absence of the spirit of God in your fair-weather supporters.

Bush doesn't support you, therefore he's aligned with the devil.

To do God's work, you must dish on everything you know about the events of November, 2000. You must redeem yourself in God's eyes for installing Beelzebub's evil minions.

10. Katherine should change her name to "Patsy."
A "Patsy" never really knows what they are getting into. That's why they are the "Patsy."

Harris was stroked and petted and directed to do her 'patriotic' dirty deeds in election 2000.

From all the reports, including from "reputable" former hires, Harris seems to be quite unhinged. That is the first job requirement of a "Patsy." The Bushies got a wack-job to do their dirty and then threw her under the bus. Standard Operating Procedure.

Since she was, and is, a wack-job, the Bushies don't even have to get their pinkies dirtied in discrediting her. If she dishes any dirt about 2000, she is already discredited. See how that works?

13. Bad candidates are a dime a dozen.......
in both parties.
you can put a top notch campaign staff behind a rotten candidate and 9 times out of 10 the public will get it right and decline to elect. This is our saving grace as a nation.

Of course it doesn't ALWAYS work. W is the exception that proves the rule.

16. Ms. Harris can still redeem herself - testify under oath about election
She could really reform her name if she were to tell all about the 2000 election theft.

If she turned to the truth she would find a huge group of new supporters.
