New Fox News Poll Offers Little To Spin, But One Thing Stands Out
The Aug. 29-30 Fox News Channel/Opinion Dynamics poll clearly shows that the mood of the country heavily swings toward the Democrats -- a positive sign as Congressional elections near.

But is it all good news? I'm a little worried about the high number of Independents who remain undecided.

This is sort of like being at the one-yard line, no?

1. No
They love to maintain that status to the last minute. I don't blame them.

2. Undecided...or unwilling to make a public stand?
I think few are undecided at this point. Look for the majority to break with Democrats.

4. probably
But it's a pretty big number. The poll asks undecided which way they lean, and even still, it's a pretty big number.

There's another DU thread about what huge thing the Republicans may throw into the news cycle right before the election. Having a large number of undecideds makes that strategy -- pulling Independents to their side -- plausible.

5. The undecided independents don't scare or bind like
the republicans do.

6. Typically,
"Independents" or "Undecideds" tend to go with the challenger (in this case, the minority party), and often at the last minute. Also, there seems to be an anti-incumbent sentiment brewing out there.

and of course, other non-Fox News polls may show a smaller pool of independents.
