Saxton campaign ads in Oregon. Sign of the times? |
|
I noticed that Ron Saxton, a Republican, has been saturating our local airwaves with his capaign ads for governor of Oregon. What struck me as odd, though, is that not one of his TV ads mentions his party affiliation, not even in the fine print. He's either afraid of admitting he's a Republican, or he's ashamed to admit it. One way or another, he clearly doesn't want the average voter to notice that he belongs to the party of Bush.

1. Very common for GOP running in blue states this year... |
|
Your gubernatorial candidate is far from the only one. Especially in the West and the Northeast, GOP candidates often neglect to mention affiliation this campaign season.

2. Have you seen Mike Erickson's ads? |
|
He's the Republican running against Darlene Hooley in Oregon's Fifth District. I saw his TV ads and barely knew what he was running for; certainly not against whom or for what party.
And it seems that Mr. Erickson also has a little difficulty with the truth, which is that he's not quite the "self made" businessman he'd like people to think he is.

our Republican lt. governor, Michael Steele, is running for a Senate seat. In the one tv ad that I have seen he doesn't mention his party affiliation either. In fact, if you did not know he was a Republican, from his commercial one could reasonably infer he was an independent candidate. He says that he knows people are fed up with the way both the Republicans and Democrats are doing things and he'll be a different kind of senator.

Vote for me because I'm not Ted Kulongoski and I have a big gap between my teeth.
