You're a candidate: How dirty a campaign are you prepared to run? |
|
If you had pictures of your opponent and a 'person not the candidate's spouse' coming out of the No Tell Motel, would you talk about them? Use them?
Would you make an issue of your opponent's drinking 'issues'?
How about your opponent's fradulent diploma?
Would you be the first to go negative?
Would you pull some shenannigans that you'd never want anyone to find out about?
Are you more in the 'nice guys finish last' camp or the 'truth will out' camp?

1. calling attention to a fraudulent diploma or alcohol issues... |
|
...that''s not going dirty as long as you remain factual. hopefully, a local press with the slightest hint of cojones would bring the facts out and let the chips fall...
a fraudulent diploma is willful deception if not downright illegal. untreated alcholism is a major issue ..... is there a drunk driving arrest hidden in the other candidate's past?
making up shit, like the swiftboaters did....that is beyond foul.

2. If it's true, it's fair game, but . . . |
|
it depends on what the dirt is. I'd be more likely to divulge a fraudulent diploma than photos from the No Tell Motel. It can backfire badly. At the moment, in Vermont, there's a nasty campaign going on in the Senate race. Tarrant, the Republican, is running commercials insinuating Bernie Sanders is for kiddie porn, letting sex offenders go free and depriving working mothers of assistance. Tarrant has cherry picked some of Bernie's votes on bills that included some of these issues and created a smear campaign. How's it working? Bernie's at about 65%, Tarrant's out 10 million or so of his own money.

7. Good post. I love Bernie and detest Tarrent. |
|
We get so much political mail and TV advertising that I think we alone received a million dollars worth of all negative advertising. Bernie doesn't have to say much. He knows we all love him.

maybe have a little chat with my apponent and ask him, if he is really prepared to suffer the consequences of continuing his attack on me?
on edit: Personally, I feel it would be worth ruining my own career to take the person down then.

I think people should be exposed for wrong doing and/or incompetence no matter who they are.

10. He sends your boy to the hospital, you send his boy to the morgue |

Not literally, mind you - but you get the general idea. Politics is very much a contact sport.

12. Against a Republican? |
|
I'd use his Gramma's incontinence. His kids bad report cards. His wife's herpes. Anything and everything.
If his gramma was young and spry, his kid an honor student, and his wife pristine...I'd condone lying if it proved to be effctive.
They set the rules, why not play by them?
Plane crashes, lone gunmen, fake terrorism ala 911, anthrax letters? I'd have to draw the line there. Then we've become them.
