Can anyone - Clinton, Clarke, a 9/11 survivor, even a citizen - sue ABC? |
|
For libel, slander, defamation of character? They probably wouldn't win - not even get it to court. But if "celebs" can sue scandal sheets and get settlements...
The idea would be to generate buzz, get the news programs talking about the outrage - and the mislabeling of fiction as fact.
Just a thought.

if they want to win. However, winning might not be the aim. Following the money might be a better aim. Publicising the fact that they LIED is the aim.
Lawyers never seem to get that part, though.

(1) Somebody would need to fork over a ton of money to entertain any possibility of legal action - and if there is legal action you can figure it will drag on forever.
(2) The standard of proof is probably going to be "actual malice."
(3) A fictional representation of a factual event is still fiction.

5. Watch for the disclaimer at the start of the show. |
|
After all, ABC is not suggesting the program is actually true....

6. Exactly. The disclaimer protects them from it all. |
