How is this leadership?
Edited on Thu Sep-07-06 07:11 AM by underpants
We have been told repeatedly and despite glaring evidence to the contrary that W is a big old bad leader. Leads from his gut ya know. Doesn't need facts or minutia he just fires from the hip. Hey what could possibly go wrong??

Yesterday we got a very different Dear Leader. We got one appearing to do a 180 in the middle of never wavering. We got yet another public admittance of breaking the law. We also got to see W in a way that we never thought we would see but that most people already assumed was the case.

We saw a helpless bug on its back pleading for help. We saw a child asking for direction now that the cookie jar is in pieces.

So today, I'm asking Congress to pass legislation that will clarify the rules for our personnel fighting the war on terror. First, I'm asking Congress to list the specific, recognizable offenses that would be considered crimes under the War Crimes Act -- so our personnel can know clearly what is prohibited in the handling of terrorist enemies. Second, I'm asking that Congress make explicit that by following the standards of the Detainee Treatment Act our personnel are fulfilling America's obligations under Common Article Three of the Geneva Conventions. Third, I'm asking that Congress make it clear that captured terrorists cannot use the Geneva Conventions as a basis to sue our personnel in courts -- in U.S. courts. The men and women who protect us should not have to fear lawsuits filed by terrorists because they're doing their jobs.

All that he is asking, pleading Congress to define for him is usually done as part of the Justice Department and State Departments' normal course of business. These are part of the executive branch so they are under his direction. This is not leadership this is asking someone else to sign off on what you do from this point forward and ignoring what has happened in the past. I am sure that the legislation contains amnesty for the past actions of the President and those under his command.
