Would the airing of Path to 9/11 be bad for Clinton? |
|
It seems to me when Clinton gets attacked from the right, his poll numbers go through the roof.

1. It's not about that, although you have a valid point |
|
It really is about the followers of the Bush Regime using a Major Network Channel to promote their propaganda. This isn't HBO where you have to pay an extra $12 to have or even Cable TV where you need to pay extra to have 50+ specialty channels fed into your TV. This is a channel that anyone who owns a TV and has some decent reception can watch it for FREE. I went for 10 years without any cable and I was able to get the 6 major networks and PBS.
This is also about ABC finding other FREE ways to push the biased agenda of this movie, whether through free classroom materials for teachers or free downloads from ITunes. This is nothing more than pure propaganda that rivals the techniques of Joseph Goebbels

2. Yeah, but that was because of a sex "scandal". |
|
I put "scandal" in quotes because most people didn't care; they were sick of people's private lives ending up in political fights. Peoples' perceptions of their own security is a whole other thing.
Now I do think that this Path to 9/11 thing might end up pretty neutralized if the story about the background of the production were to get out or accompany its' cancellation. If it gets cancelled without the story getting out it might make things worse.

3. I'm not concerned about Clinton, I'm concerned about possible effects |
|
...on the November elections. All the repigs have left is that they're perceived as tough on terror, and even THAT is slipping from their grasp. If they can leave the impression that Democrats (even Dems out of power for over half a decade) are weak, and couple that with a ratcheting up of fear via fake terror alerts, they probably believe they can pull a win in November.

4. I think that it is more to cover Bush's complicity--read the polls |
|
most Americans think that we have been lied to regarding 9/11. And we have. "Path to 9/11" is just more lies and smoke.

Now we have Democrats complaining that this "docudrama" doesn't hew to the official 9/11 "Omission" Report, as though the report were the definitive and unassailable historical record of 9/11. This despite the recent admission by the board's own chairmen that, at the time, they believed that they were being lied to by military officials, yet allowed this important testimony to stand unchallenged. The military officials themselves now admit to having lied in their original testimony (though whether they were lying then, or are now lying about lying, I believe should be a matter for public debate). And, unbelievably, the report fails to even mention WTC7, much less attempt to explain its still unaccounted-for collapse.
The board was riddled with egregious conflicts of interest. Ask most any 9/11 family member. I stand with them in calling for another investigation, only a for real one this time.

5. No, it wouldn't hurt Clinton... pretty much |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 01:22 PM by RangerSmith
everybody whose seen it say it's so bad it won't be taken seriously...
BUT, these things need to be challenged ALWAYS, IMHO ... regardless of whose ox is being gored. Otherwise it really wreaks of hypocrisy. I promise you most independants are laughing at the hypocrisy.
This is the Reagans all over again, just different sides.
Remember the quote "those who live in sin, shall die in sin" they attributed to reagan and even none of his enemies would say they ever heard him say it? Whats the difference, now?
Daschle shouldn't have said, "it smells of intimidation," when the thing was pulled, he should have said, "there is no place on network TV for these kinds of agenda driven fabrications."
And the fact that it's always only partisan challenges is a huge part of the problem.
It should never be tolerated much less applauded no matter the target if it's fabricated.

8. the airing of this tripe will BE the scandal |
|
If the wingnuts can create such a shitstorm over Dan Rather using unconfirmed sources, surely we can create a Katrina-level effect on this issue. I am livid.
BTW Clinton will be fine. He withstood their decade-long jihad. This is also a shot at HRC and I hope those that despise her here at DU can zip it for awhile until this is resolved to at least give the appearance of solidarity.

9. The more I think about it, I believe it will backfire... |
|
most Americans are too cynical about 9/11 right now to accept piling it on Clinton. It happened on Bush's watch, he'll never be able to run from that. Plus, it's going to open the whole can of worms again, possibly shining a light on some other inconvenient truths. Does Bushco really want to go there?

10. Anybody with common sense |

knows that every administration has to take some blame for 9/11. I've heard Clinton interviewed about it and he is pragmatic. Stuff happens.
My more recent question is whether or not the latest Bin Laden tape has any effect on conspiracy theorists.

12. if it goes into the schools |
|
it will influence millions of innocent minds, and generations of students thereafter.
how many of these students will tell their own children, ' I saw this documentary when I was in high school and this is what I learned'.....
It's the cumulative, generational damage that really dismays me.
