Do you think there is any chance Bush will try to stay in office past 2008 |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 09:57 PM by TitanicWreck
A nightmare hypothetical I have heard tossed about the past couple years was that another 911 type disaster might happen right before the 2008 presidential election- resulting in the postponement-and cancellation of the presidential election- the end result being fascism. I didnt think that could ever happen in america- Aren't we the world's 'beacon of freedom'?-but now Im wondering- I have heard on some right wing radio shows fascist callers argue that Bush SHOULD repeal the presidential term limits, and stay in office indefinatly -as a way to 'protect freedom'.. Have any of you seen or heard of a movement to keep Bush in office past 2008? If he did stay in office- what would happen? Im convinced civil war, triggered by the military would happen shortly thereafter.. If there is any truth to any aspect of 911 being an inside job- then there is no way the necons will let go of power...

I remember a brief campaign by Reagan's ardent supporters back in 1986 to "change the 25th amendment" which restricts a President's terms to two. It never went anywhere.
I don't think even these idiots will try something that dumb at this point....they are loathed more by the day. If their popularity werent going into the shithole I'd be echoing your fears, but as it stands their own corrupted, sick actions are doing them in. Nicely.
Sit back and enjoy the horror. Just be ready to clean up the mess when it comes time.

2. I'd say it's definitely in the realm of possibility. |

I can't see them turning all that power over to the Dems.

They've got to know that they'll be out of power for another generation . They had to wait for most of the survivors of the great depression to die before they could get back in last time. I submit that they feared the World War II generation enough to wait for most of them to pass too. "Fascism here? Emmy , reach my old B.A.R. down from the mantle and we'll see about that...." They're creaming themselves still over what happened to New Orleans. They don't have weather control- but unlike Saddam they do have nuclear weapons. Even a small one would ruin San Francisco or Los Angeles forever.

6. First of all, welcome!!!!!!!!!!! |

I think they will have to carry bush out kicking and screaming. I think that they have set things up for themselves and will not hand it over to the dems easily. The next few years should be very interesting to watch, but miserable to live through.

I don't think bush himself has that much power. I'm not confident that the neocon cabal will give up power

He's off to get his big money pay off and build his presidential library. I wonder what's going to happen to all those documents both from his governorship and the presidencies of Bush l, Clinton and himself? Burned?

10. He'll skulk out as soon as he can. |
|
He is spending the country blue and killing troops to keep the lid on Iraq until the end of his term. He won't be the one to realize the loss of the investment he made. The country is stuck in Iraq until Bush leaves. He told us so.
This low, small man wants to leave as soon as he can so he can make the Iraq war debacle a multi-president debacle. The loss will be recorded during his successor's time in office. He will take comfort in that. His supporters will use it to cloud the issue of the harm they did the country.

12. No. He can't wait to get out. |
|
He's made quite a mess of things and he knows it - as usual. He's anxious to move on and leave someone else to clean it up - as usual. That's been his MO his entire life.
Plus, people would take to the streets like they could never imagine. I don't think even the GOP is that stupid.

Not only would Democrats want him to leave, but Republicans who support the 2008 GOP nominee would also want him to leave.

This is my fear. There is NOTHING this SOB isn't capable of doing. I can see them ramping up a media campaign months in advance. "If Bush leaves office, Bin Laden wins!!" Or- "we can't change leders in the middle of a war against evil". Or- "if Bush goes, the terrorists win". Sound far-fetched? Impossible? Unconstitutional? Look at what this asshole has been doing for the past six years and ask yourself if he WOULDN'T do this.
