Republican working undercover in dem. campaign/ OHIO
From NEWSNET5 (CLEVELAND)

Republican Caught Working For Betty Sutton

NewsChannel5 reported a Republican campaign worker was caught passing out secret information about a Democratic campaign.

Sean Hicks, who is also known as Nick Brinda and Andy Deluciano, worked as a volunteer and hid his identity from the Betty Sutton campaign. Sutton is a Democrat.

<SNIP>

The "campaign espionage" goes beyond attending Sutton events, WEWS reported.

Hicks used his alias in e-mails to get information from Sutton's staffers for information.

He explained in one e-mail that he couldn't make a Sutton camp meeting. He wrote:

"Unfortunately I will not be able to make it. Would you be willing to let me know what you are planning to discuss at the meeting. I would be grateful. Also, please let me know what you have planned around this Lorain County. Cheers, Nick.”

1. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often
on both sides. It seems like it would be relatively easy to infiltrate a campaign.

12. Reminds me of the undercover cop in Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911
that infiltrated a peace group that met to eat cookies and discuss peace.

Like xchrom, I wonder how many GOP operatives are working in Democratic campaigns.

5. oh the DLC
I don't know, I don't think you could exactly say they are undercover. They are pretty blatant, aren't they? :)

7. I live in Columbus, OH
and did some volunteer work for Kerry ...... I caught some repug
creep trying to do something @ Kerry's state HQs. We had volunteers
show up about 2 months before the election and 1 guy did not seem to
fit in .... never laughing .... never talking to others ..... I introduced myself
and asked him what was his name .... I knew he was dirty ...... he all but ran
away before the tour of the HQs was over.

8. Election officials in 2004 posed as Democrats in Ohio,
then when the election was stolen, everyone said, "Dems were in charge of the precincts, therefore it couldn't have been stolen."

9. Pretty standard occurrence, however....
the current heightened level of the GOP's willingness to lie, cheat, and steal to win elections has elevated it to a whole new danger.

10. We have at least one Republican working on the campaign
of Democratic U.S. House candidate Diane Benson, but that's because a lot of people here are in a "kick the bums out" mode. From what I understand, a number of people who are supporting Republican Sarah Palin in the governor's race are also supporting Diane Benson to overthrow Don Young. We take support from wherever we can get it.

These people aren't covert, however, as apparently the R in the OP was.

16. I've been saying that Dems should do this for the past 5 years.
Our opponets outsmart us on every turn. Dems have no imagination.
