STOP already with the phone calls! |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 11:35 AM by Husb2Sparkly
Every day we get a shitload of political phone calls. We give to many organizations, campaigns, and offical party groups. We have in the past and we will in the future.
But these phone calls are a huge turnoff. So much so, that I have started getting rude. Sparkly is kinder, but no less bothered; she just asks them politely not to call.
I understand the need for agressive fund raising. The alternatives are failed efforts or corporate monies.
But PLEASE .... can't there be some way to connect givers to the phone lists and give the givers a fucking BREAK??
I know ..... small issue .... but I had to vent.
edit for typos

1. I tell the callers that I am politically active and do donate - but that I |
|
make all my donations DIRECTLY to the political candidates/organizations of my choice.

2. Remember they're all working for the one goal |
|
The one we all share...getting Democrats elected.
I know it can get annoying. Unfortunately, it's hard to coordinate all the callers. They're all working off their own lists. In some cases it's even illegal to coordinate so I think we're stuck with the current problem.

3. And Stop Asking Me To Make Phone Calls |
|
Most people hate the calls. I will never believe they do more good than harm. And with caller ID, why would anyone answer their phone nowadays if there is a question as to the caller. Personally, if I don't recognize a number I let it ring, if I even stop what I'm doing and look at the phone. If it is important, the caller will leave a message. If not, I didn't need to waste my time picking up the phone.

4. Make direct contributions to the candidates of your choice. |
|
The result will be total deforestation (in the form of non-relenting mail), but you will not have to put up with the phone calls.

5. I got so excited when I answered my phone and heard... |
|
"Hi, this is Senator John Kerry..."
I thought he was going to say, "I'm going to be in Brockton tomorrow, and was wondering if I could crash on your couch for a night."
Instead, it turned out to be an automated fundraising message.
They never call, never write, and we only hear from them when they want money.

6. Honestly, it's those automated ones |
|
that really bother me. I can handle talking to a person because they're always on "my side" but I don't like the recorded messages. http://www.cafepress.com/scarebaby/658010

7. I don't like the robo calls myself |
|
They're cost-effective but I'm not sure how election-effective they are.

8. And don't come to my door either |
|
It's very annoying when someone unexpectedly bangs on my door. The dogs go nuts barking and have to be corralled before I can even open the door, and there is never a time in my life when I'm doing nothing except wishing that someone would come to my door for a little tell & sell.
So when I'm supporting your campaign, please don't ask me to precinct walk; I hate being the victim of it so I'm not going to be a perpetrator.

9. That's the best way for candidates to meet constituents |
|
I'm sorry you feel the way you do but it's not going to stop. How much more directly can a candidate reach out to ask for a vote?

11. I think I could make an exception for the actual candidate. |

But that never happens in real life.

It's a major part of most campaigns.
