Suppose we get what we want in November. What happens then? |
|
If we take control of the House and Senate in November who's going to push for impeachment? Will we get it? Or will we just be told to move on?

3. Yeah but we should be fighting now. |

If Democratic lawmakers can't get riled up over dealing with the most incompetent person to ever sit in the WH in recent history I don't know what will put the fire in their bellies.

2. Simple, we swamp the inboxes of the House Judiciary Committee |
|
Till someone puts Articles up.
THat's the thing about Democrats, if they won't do it of their volition, MAKE them do it! :bounce:

First, there has to be investigations. These are very important because they can have a profound effect on public opinion. Those of us who lived through the Watergate scandal could see this in action. First the 1973 Senate hearings, then the House Judiciary (impeachment) hearings a year later convinced the public that Nixon had to go.
The vision of John W. Dean telling the the Senate and the world, "There is a cancer on the Presidency" is one I will never forget. Likewise Peter Rodino's demeanor during the House hearings was unforgettable. You could tell that he was profoundly serious, and at the same time, sad, about the state the country has sank to.
Note it was public opinion which moved the Republicans to support the articles of impeachment in the committee. The fact that these never reached a vote on the House floor was a testament to bi-partisanship at the time. We must now realize that things are going to be much more difficult. The rubber-stamping Repukes in Congress are likely going to be quite immovable, and the Repuke House leadership is likely going to be putting their strongest ideologues on the Judiciary committee to fight the inevitable.
Yes, I feel strongly that impeachment is the inevitable course. However, we're going to have to convince the people that this is a case where it is warranted. After the Clinton debacle, the people are going to be very skeptical. It may take some time to move them, so we're going to have to move slowly and deliberately.

8. Your last paragraph explains the while Clinton witch hunt. |
|
The gop innoculated themselves, dragging this country through an impeachment over a bj. (Conveniently ignoring btw the Jennifer Fitzgerald/GHWB affair while Poppy was in the WH)
So yeah thanks to Monica the public would be skeptical about having another president under investigation.

9. I don't think people will be skeptical about investigation. |

Investigation is a normal Congressional task. As long as Dems play their cards right, there should be little opposition to it in the public eye. In fact, it is already a majority viewpoint.
But proceeding from investigation to special prosecutor or impeachment hearings should be carefully done. We want to make sure that the public is going along with the program. I think it won't be as difficult as many people think. I think that the people *want* to go down this path, but they will resist strenuously if they think that they're being *dragged* down the path, like in the Clinton matter.
Democrats have to be sensitive to this element. Then, everything will be okay. Chimp/Crashcart will be toast.

5. Have an agenda with priorities |
|
In other words, see what trade agreements can be overruled or terminated. Make immigration and border laws enforceable with funding. Repeal all these corporate and rich people tax breaks of the last few years for revenue. Terminate royalties for these international oil companies. Try to get allies from the Repubs if 2/3 votes are necessary for an override. Have Justice dept investigate for all legal violations by the Executive branch of gov't, in case impeachment proceedings become a necessity. And on and on...

6. We'll be told, for the good of the country, we must move on... |
|
Me personally, I'm not interested in impeachment. I want Bush to get what he deserves. I want him Court-Marshalled, I want him brought up on criminal charges. I want him sitting in a courtroom wondering if he's going to live or die. ...He and the rest of THEM should NOT get away with what they've done.
If I had a crystal ball, I think the republicans, (through election fraud) will win in November by the skin of their teeth. I think we'll be in Iran before the year is up.

About the election I mean and about Iran. That's what I want to dearl avoid. Right after chimpy's first selection dems kept telling us to move on. I myself want to see the whole gang frog-walked out of the WH.

...picture Robert Novak and Pat Buchanan's faces as they told us that we had to "move-on" and to be "examples" as to how democracies change powers without a hitch.
Thanks for the welcome,

7. Then, it is entirely up to the Democrats who are elected to show America |
|
that they are different than the republican and they are better than the republicans and they can make a difference. If they do not do that, America will dump the Democratic party in 2008 because you know the right wing bull shit coupled with the main stream media whores will be hitting them hard for the full two years between 06 and 08. Essentially they only have 12 months to make a difference before the 08 election cycle kicks into HI!

11. Conyers and Waxman have been trying to hold investigations |
|
into halliburton, the reasons for going to war, etc. But, they can't because the dems are in the minority. They will make lots of noise once they are able to be heard. It will be interesting to see how the press covers this.
