WP/AP: Jack Carter hospitalized in Nevada
Nevada Senate Candidate Hospitalized
The Associated Press
Sunday, September 10, 2006

LAS VEGAS -- Democratic Senate candidate Jack Carter, son of former President Jimmy Carter, has been hospitalized with severe colitis, a spokesman said Sunday.

Carter, 59, was admitted to a hospital on Thursday with the condition, which is an inflammation of the colon, said press secretary Jay Jones. Carter was well enough to greet his parents, who flew into Las Vegas to be with him Sunday morning.

"Jack is doing well," Jones said.

A family friend and physician, Dr. Edward Nathan, said in a release the colitis "had a cascade effect on several of his body's systems" but added, "he's responding rapidly to treatment and his vital signs are stable."

"He's on the mend, he's recovering nicely," Nathan said....

4. Isn't colon cancer something the Carter's are susceptible to?
I think President Carter lost his sister and brother to colon cancer. I'm probably just being melodramatic.

5. It's pancreatic cancer that has devastated the Carter family.
From Wikipedia: "Three of (Lillian Carter's) four children, Ruth Stapleton, Billy Carter and Gloria Spann also died from pancreatic cancer."

6. The Carters are not your usual politicians. Both Jack and his wife,
Elizabeth write personal notes of thanks on postcards to those who have contributed to Jack's campaign--even for small amounts. I received just such a postcard recently--and it was not the first I had received from Jack Carter. They are obviously working very hard on his campaign.

I wish him a speedy recovery, and hope that he wins his race against John Ensign, R- NV, in November.
