Hey Rhode Islanders, help us take back the Senate Tuesday! |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 09:42 PM by jackbourassa
Rhode Island Democrats,
Tuesday you have the chance of helping the DEMOCRATIC PARTY come one step closer to regaining the Senate. Tuesday's Republican primary is open to EVERYONE, including Democrats and Independents. There can be no doubt that a Laffey victory over Chafee would certainly guarantee the Democrats a PICK-UP OPPORTUNITY, and hence, one less race the DSCC will have to focus on and spend money on.
I have heard some of you say that a) you don't mind Chafee; and b) you'd prefer Chafee to Laffey; but understand that voting in the Republican Primary will not mean that you have to change your voter registration or support Laffey in the general. It only means that Laffey will get one more vote against Chafee in the primary. If Laffey should win, Rhode Island becomes a guaranteed pick-up for us. Don't forget that Chafee supported the Bolton nomination and keeps control of the US Senate, and all of its committees and sub-committees, in the hands of Republicans like Orrin Hatch, Pat Roberts and Trent Lott.
We need to win back the Senate desperately to hold the Bush Administration accountable for his actions in Iraq, the middle east, the economy, etc. With a Republican controlled Senate, Bush will have all of his idiotic proposals rubber stamped...again.
This is YOUR chance to make a difference.
I hope all of you will go out and vote. This is YOUR chance to fire the first shot in the Democrats attempt to WIN BACK THE US SENATE this fall.
VICTORY '06!!!!!!!!!
Jack Bourassa.
P.S. Keep this thread BUMPED until tomorrow night. This should stay on the main page because I want to get the maximum number of Rhode Islanders to read it before polls close Tuesday night and not all of them will visit the Rhode Island page.
P.P.S. Also, please give this thread a recommendation so it can make it to the front page by tomorrow morning.
Thank all of you.

5. RI Demos, please vote for a crazy Republican.... |
|
In the Republican Primary. I've done the same in primaries in South Carolina. You will feel a little dirty afterwards, being surrounded by Republicans and all. But the fun part is trying not to snicker when writing down your vote for a crazy man (Laffey), so a sane Democrat can win the General election.
It's one of the best things you can possibly do for your nation. And fun as well!!!

9. Why didn't Chafee change Parties? |
|
Why would Democrats wish to change Parties to support him? He could have won as a Democrat. But he chose to remain a Republican and support the Republican Party on many of the "big" issues. He's the worst kind of Republican. Get him out and put a real Democrat in his place.

11. Yes. A vote for Chafee is a vote for a Republican majority |
|
If Laffey wins the Repub primary, Whitehouse (D) will definitely beat him in the general election.

12. Can someone tell me the point of open primaries? |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 10:19 AM by OregonDem
It seems redundant to have everyone vote for the person to run than have everyone vote again to elect. I want Democrats picking the candidate in the Democratic primary, not everyone because when everyone does then it destroys the purpose of having political parties. The purpose of a political parties in my opinion is for people to choose the party that more closely agrees with their politically philosophy than to work within it to shape the ideology of the candidates running for office. I agree however that Rhode Island Democrats should vote for Laffey simply because its a smart strategic move.

14. Dem's can not vote in the republican primary |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 11:59 AM by m_welby
That's not how it works. A month ago any Dem could have 'un-affiliated' from the party and therefore can vote in either of the primaries (but not both). It is too late for anyone to un-affiliate now.
Since most RI voters are always un-affiliated, the primary is impossible to predict. Which is why it's funny to see people asking dems to vote for laffey when in reality there are more independants here than dems and repubs combined. It's the independants which will make the difference today.
If by some chance you are voting republican in RI, immediately after you vote, request, fill out, and submit the required form to un-affiliate. This will put you back in the independant camp. Of course I expect almost everyone in 'the biggest little' already knows this.
Otherwise you are affiliated with the republican party (that's how it works here); the last primary you voted in sets your party designation unless you actively change it.
