Former N.J. Gov. McGreevey on Oprah Show 9/19; has written memoir
AP: Former N.J. Governor to Go on Oprah Show
By ANGELA DELLI SANTI
Associated Press Writer

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Former New Jersey Gov. James E. McGreevey, who has remained publicly silent since resigning from office two years ago after announcing he was gay, is set to tell his story on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

Winfrey landed the exclusive interview with 49-year-old McGreevey because of her sense of faith and spirituality, according to friends of the former governor. McGreevey is said to be a fan of Winfrey's education and anti-poverty work, two issues to which the former governor is devoting more time in his post-political life.

About a dozen friends accompanied McGreevey and his partner, Australian financial adviser Mark O'Donnell, 42, to Chicago for the taping scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Some segments of the show, including clips from the Union County home McGreevey shares with O'Donnell, were filmed previously.

The interview will air Sept. 19, the same day McGreevey's political memoir, "The Confession," goes on sale....

4. You know Hanutty the other hate radio types will be beating this
into the ground like they did with McKinney. Luckily it's mostly preaching to the choir.

5. Go away, Please just go away.
No one in Jersey could give a flying you know what that the man is gay.

People DID care very much that he gave his boyfriend a six figure job as head of Department of Homeland Security--a job for which the object of his affections was not in any way shape or form qualified.

People are pissed enough at Corzine for doing the responsible thing and forcing a budget compromise. This clown parading around saying "Look at me I'm GAY!" is the last thing Menendez and the other Democrats need.

6. This is so true
I fail to understand how a man who spent his entire life in politics could NOT see that 2 months before a close election is NOT the time to release or publisize his memoirs given the corruption he was involved in. Where is his brain?

I remember spending considerable time explaining to my out of state family and friends exactly what you said. If he were gay and honest and didn't try to make a boy friend head of our state security, it would have been an interesting story for a week or so, but not a huge problem. Having the chutzpah to claim the guy, with no credentials was qualified - because he was Israeli - didn't work well.
