Wow! 2 GOP OH state senate races in trouble |
|
What should normally be a smooth cruise to re-election with margin of victory to spare has turned into a bumpy ride for two influential GOP leaders in the Ohio senate. Kevin Coughlin and David Goodman are both polling even with their Dem opponents. Pay to play politics is still very active in these down-ticket races in Ohio. Most Dem candidates running for Ohio House or Senate have a huge fundraising disadvantage against GOP candidates, whose parties pump millions into races - money the candidates don't even have to raise for themselves. http://www.dispatch.com/news/news.php?story=dispatch/2006/09/16/20060916-C2-00.html

1. Kevin Coughlin put forth legislation that declared a child who was |
|
home-schooled (name: Calvin LaVictoire - sounds French to me ...) was still eligible to use the PUBLIC SCHOOL FACILITIES - the school swimming pool - and wanted to be on the swim team ...
Yet another case of Repukes coming to the aid of a single person, instead of the greater whole ...
The family has its own website ... google the kid's name to find out ...

one of the "caveman caucus" who hates goverment spending of any kind unless its on religious programs. He's also contemptuous of his constituents, never returning calls, etc.
He's one arrogant conservative who deserves to lose his seat.

3. He is enrolled in a virtual academy, not homeschooled. |

Calvin LaVictoire, a 15-year-old who is currently enrolled in the Akron Digital Academy, an online school sponsored by the Akron Public Schools, wants to be given the right to swim for Firestone High School's swim team. The school system should deny LaVictoire's request. If school officials allow it, they will be opening themselves up to similar cases, in different sports and for different reasons. The only people allowed to participate in high school athletics should be high school students enrolled in that school.
LaVictoire is a good swimmer, but his ability should have no influence on the ruling. It is unfortunate for him that he will be unable to compete on the high school level, but when he or his parents decided to enroll in the Digital Academy, how could they have expected anything different? Online schooling is a choice, and with that choice come missed opportunities. If he really wants to swim, yet still wishes to continue in his current school, LaVictoire should enroll in a few classes at Firestone. It would not require a full schedule to allow him to compete.
I think if the parents pay taxes to fund the school, the kid should be allowed to swim. However, this child is enrolled in a local digital academy.
