Why not meet with Ahamdinejad? |
|
Sure, we all like to get together with our friends and allies. But to resolve a conflict, even a threat of war, especially a threat of war, we need to meet with our enemies and our adversaries.
This was the mistake that Israel made: refused to meet with Palestinians that were getting more and more extreme as the years went by. (Oh, please, do not move this to the I/P forum)
Yes, Bush should meet with Ahamdinejad, and with the Korean guy, with Castro - long over due - and with Syria's Assad.
They do not need to hug, they do not even need to shake hands, though I think it would be very rude. They don't need a photo-op, he can even say that they could not agree on a simple item. But if ever there is a mushroom cloud over the Middle East, at least you could say that you tried.
(On second thought, why offer this to him? If he will follow, he will appear as a respectable statesman who thinks of the future... urgg)

1. Because that's what a Prez Clinton would do. And Prez Gore. And Prez Kerry |
|
And Bush is dead set on proving he is NOT them.

5. First, we need some sort of diplomatic give and take |
|
You have to crawl before you can walk.
Under this regime, though, forget it. Ain't gonna happen, as Poppy might say.

Mr. Bush declined because he's scared.
