but right now Clark IS a campaign worker, and he is matching the most dedicated of them, hour for hour. Clark's schedule this month is pretty grueling.

I saw you asking about him in the Clark forum. I'm guessing he'll not have a lot of time to be appearing on Fox if he keeps up a schedule that has him doing four events in one day like he's doing in AZ...

3. Don't forget Iowa 9/30/06
Wes will also appear in Iowa:

description:
General Clark will be the special guest at the Warren County Democrats Fall Dinner on Saturday, September 30th, 2006 in Indianola, Iowa. The event begins at 5PM
The cost is $25.00 per person.
Children 12 and under are $10.00.
Check the Warren County Democrats website for additional details as they become available.
Location: Indianola, Iowa

Just in case Clark's schedule for September wasn't full enough, the folks of Iowa are also in for a treat.

Wow Carol, this is amazing. The Arizona schedule includes a townhall event; the best.

26. Mostly Clark campaigns for Dems in reddish areas
Partly because so many other big-name Dems can help out in traditionally blue areas, and partly because he thinks the media blows us off so much, we MUST take our message out to red communities directly. Point is, he may not be in MD anytime soon, but maybe someplace close. I know he was in northern NJ not to long ago, a red area of a mostly blue state. He'll be in PA in Jack Murtha's district next week, but then it's KY, AZ and MT. He's likely to be in VA soon, but if it's like last time, most like the southern and western parts of the state.

9. another event in KY
Looks like Wes will be doing another event in KY tomorrow night...

From the Cincinnati Post:

"And, former Democratic presidential candidate and retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark will headline a rally Sunday evening in Wilder, Ky.

Clark will be the headline speaker at an 8 p.m. rally for state House candidates Linda Klembara of Fort Thomas and Randy Blankenship of Erlanger at the Wilder Civic Center, 530 Licking Pike.

Clark's visit is open to the public; the president's and McCain's are not.'

17. Adding another event in Pennsylvania
It seems that while Wes will be Iowa Saturday night, he will be speaking on behalf of John Murtha, earlier in the day:

JOHNSTOWN, Pa., Sept. 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Retired General and former Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark will join former U.S. Senator Max Cleland, D-GA, as the featured speakers at the Veterans for Murtha rally this Saturday, September 30th at 11 am in Central Park, Johnstown, PA.

Clark will join Cleland in helping U.S. Rep. John P. Murtha, D-PA, fend off 'swift boat'-type attacks by a rogue group of veterans who disagree with Murtha's position on the Iraq war. "We're going to make sure people across the country see the support Jack Murtha has for his courageous leadership," Cleland said.

The rally will provide a festival atmosphere with free food and music for families from 11 AM to 2 PM according to organizers. Several garages will be opened free to provide ample parking. A special tent will be set up to accommodate older people.

"I'm honored to have two very distinguished American veterans, Max Cleland and Wes Clark, come to Johnstown to help fight back and speak out against the venomous attacks on my patriotism," Murtha said.

19. Clark doesn't just pick Glamor Photo Ops and early Primary States
Clark is going to places where the Democratic Party needs him the most, often conservative leaning Congressional Districts that Democrats really need to pick up in order to regain the majority in the House. When Clark implores us to "Take The Hill!" he is leading by example. The National media only concentrates on a few high profile races, usually for the U.S. Senate. A potential 2008 Presidential candidate can pick some free press showing up to campaign in those races, but the House contests usually get ignored.

Not by Wes Clark. The mission always comes first for him, not his personal career. Right now Clark's mission is to restore a Democratic majority to at least one House of Congress because too much is at risk to our nation as long as the Bush Administration has no effective oversight.

22. Picking the tough battles:
I've noticed that in addition to backing the "fighting Dems" Wes Clark is using his "stars" to help Democrats in red states, or/and Democrats who need national security credentials. Last week every Democrat running in 08 was touring NH. Not Wes Clark. He was in MO helping Claire.

In the old GQ article, Wes said that if your intensions are all about "you" then you will lose. He has decided that this must be all about 06, and obviously that frees him to do the right thing. (btw, I'm working from a dimming memory of the GQ piece, but it's close)

Nice account from Louisville here...from mikebailey2000 at kos:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/9/26/125738/074

I was amazed by how affable and accommodating General Wesley Clark was when I met him at a Louisville home, at a fundraiser for Colonel Mike Weaver, who is running against Republican Ron Lewis in Kentucky's 2nd District.

Clark was not merely a nice guy - he was forthcoming with a great deal of important information, including the likelihood that BushCo will strike Iran.

.................

About political campaigns: Clark said that "generals and colonels can only lose wars, not win them." It is the job of the generals to make sure the troops are equipped and arrayed in a way that will allow them to accomplish the mission. But the fighting and winning comes from the troops, not the top brass. It is the grunts and the low-level officers that actually make the sacrifices and deliver the victory. "Political campaigns are no different. I can stand in front of this room through November 7th, and not deliver victory. Fancy speeches will not win back Congress. It is you, donating what you can, talking to your friends, making phone calls, and knocking on doors. It is you, sacrificing time that could be spent with your families because you believe we can build a better future together. It is only you on the front lines who will deliver victory in the fall."

About the man himself: It was an honor to meet Wesley Clark and to shake his hand. Clark is clearly service oriented. He has a passionate belief in community, teamwork, and shared sacrifice. He does not believe in easy answers or sugar-coating. He understands that tough choices must be made.

Here's a TX report.... http://securingamerica.com/ccn/node/8671#comment-136850

This line sticks out: 'He IS worried about Iran, and what Bush may well do. He says we have to talk that up, everywhere.'

And this: 'Winning is done at the bottom. Politics is like that too: it's won by the foot soldiers. Give personal witness.'

He's counting on us foot soldiers to enter the fray too, you know....

Gen. Wesley Clark to give speech at UA

Clark will speak at Sellers Auditorium on Oct. 13
By Amanda Peterson
Senior Staff Reporter
September 27, 2006

Retired U.S. Army Gen. Wesley Clark will speak at the University on Oct. 13 as part of the Frank A. Nix Lecture series.

The Blackburn Institute, which will present the program, invites the public to hear Clark speak at 4 p.m.
.......

Every year the Blackburn Institute brings a different speaker to the University to speak in the Frank A. Nix Lecture series. Last year, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice came to speak for the series.

Jesse Homan, a junior majoring in English and philosophy and a member of the Blackburn Institute, said it was a challenge for the people who select the lecturer to pick a person with enough recognition to follow Rice, but Homan thinks they chose a good speaker in light of current events.

"It's great to be having him come to speak because of what's gone on in Lebanon," Homan said. "I really think it's going to pull a lot of interests. People will be interested to hear his take about what's going on."

The lecture series is particularly important for Homan because of the recognition it brings to the University by drawing important speakers. And that recognition then gives students a sense of value for their school.

"It's great for the students to know that their university is worth something for these big speakers to come," Homan said. "And then the students are actually able to interact with on some level."

The Frank A. Nix Lecture is in memory of Frank Albert Nix. He graduated from the University and was a member of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education. Nix died in a plane crash in 1996. After his death, the lecture series began as a way to explore more ethical leadership on a national level.

While Homan does not know exactly what Clark will be speaking about, he thinks it will be great for everyone to have him come speak.

"I think it's a really great opportunity. It's going to be a cool deal," Homan said.

58. I will be curious to find out details on the Murtha rally.
I was reading at one of the smaller military sites that some right wing chickenhawk radio hosts were drumming up listeners to join them and the swiftboaters at this rally. Some vets were writing letters to the owners of these radio stations(Clear Channel, I think), and trying to shame them for supporting this bilge.

It was sounding like this rally had the possibility of getting ugly in a verbal kind of way. :( I know that is the reason that Max Cleland and General Clark are offering their support.

42. Blackburn Institute
It's an on campus service/political organization. Last year, Rice spoke along with Jack Straw and then flipped the coin at the following days Bama football game. So, we're certainly upgrading this year!

Clark > Rice

No, I didn't see her. I saw her at the game. She was all decked out in her crimson (she's a Birmingham native) to get all of the fans behind her. Geez... I know one person who didn't clap! ;)

Clark stumps for Democrats in western Kentucky

By GREG TRAVIS
Staff Writer

PADUCAH, Ky. - Gen. Wesley Clark, a highly-decorated veteran, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander and former Democratic presidential candidate, brought his “Kentucky Candidate Tour” to Paducah Monday afternoon. Clark was stumping throughout the Commonwealth for House and Senate candidates while spreading his message that the Democratic grassroots organizations can change the face of America.

“I am here today because I want to re-enforce the efforts” of the Democratic candidates from this area who are running for office and to “share some of my thoughts with you,” Clark said.

He noted that he grew up in Arkansas, had lived in Kentucky twice (both times while assigned to Fort Knox) and always felt that Kentucky was real close to home for him. “I think that people here and in Arkansas have about the same values and the same concerns. We're worried about the same things. We're worried about jobs, education, health care, taking care of our families and we're worried about the war in Iraq,” he said.
........

Clark said he was “fed up with phony patriots” - ones who didn't serve their country but “wear an American flag on their lapels then vote against the kind of leadership and support that is needed for the men and women in uniform.”
........
He said people ask him why he is a Democrat and he tells them, “Because when I was in the Armed Forces I learned that it's not enough to issue orders and turn your back. To get the mission done you have got to take care of the troops. Those are the two responsibilities of any commander - and helping every man and woman and their families to be all they can be.”

He said when he returned to America he discovered one party talked about helping people and climbing the ladder of success. But what they liked to do was climb up the ladder and then pull it up after them and strand the rest of the people behind.

“What I learned in the military was a principle leadership in life - it was a natural thing to be a Democrat. Because our party lifts people up and believes in people. We pull people together and we help every American be all he or she can be.”

52. Some press on the Phoenix visit
http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2006/09/25/daily34.html

Former NATO chief blasts Bush policies during Phoenix visit

Former NATO Supreme Commander and 2004 Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark blasted President Bush on the Iraq War and Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks when he was in town Wednesday to support Congressional candidate Harry Mitchell and Senate hopeful Jim Pederson.

In a telephone interview Tuesday, Clark said he expects Iraq, terrorism and security to be the main issues in this year's election, overshadowing the economy and immigration. Immigration is a top issue for Arizona business interests, which favor a guest worker program.

The retired U.S. Army general hosted a fundraiser for Mitchell and joined forces with Pederson for a town hall meeting on the Iraq War.

57. AZ event with Pederson
Heck, I'm just going to keep posting in this thread I like it so much. lol

I like this observsation from someone who attended the event with Pederson:

Wes Clark was doing his level best to keep this event about Pederson and I respect that. The idea that a major political player is able to go to an event like this and make sure that the lights and focus stay on someone else speaks highly to me of his character.

Yep, that's Wes...It's all about 2006 right now...
