Jesse Ventura campaign veterans resurface in Texas
09/24/2006
By MICHAEL GRACZYK / Associated Press

Dean Barkley grins when he hears talk about the Texas governor's race being a two-person event — and that his guy isn't one of the two.

"They just don't want to believe it," he said.

But that's OK with Barkley. He wants independent Kinky Friedman, the entertainer and author whose populist campaign he's directing, to repeat the success of another Barkley-directed protest candidate, Jesse Ventura.

"Nobody took us seriously in Minnesota, either," Barkley said ...

Maybe, playing off the now-famous "Jesse Ventura action figures," the campaign could distribute "Kinky Friedman pull-string talking dolls" with an assortment of quotes showing Jesse's "wit":

".. if you thought of New York as a Negro talking to himself .. you wouldn't be too far off the mark .."

".. Throw 'em in prison and .. make 'em listen to a Negro talking to himself .."

&c &c &c

7. Ventura's voice rumbles again
The former governor returns as a voice-over in ads for IP candidate Peter Hutchinson.

His whereabouts these days are usually a mystery, but the voice and legacy of former Gov. Jesse Ventura suddenly returned in Minnesota's gubernatorial campaign Friday.
Independence Party candidate Peter Hutchinson began airing several radio ads that begin with a satirical send-up of the campaign rhetoric of his Republican and DFL opponents, before Ventura's voice breaks in as if the channel is being jammed.

"Hello Minnesota, can you hear me? Come in!" Ventura says in his familiar guttural tones. He then reminds Minnesotans that "in '98 you chose an independent. It's time to do it again."

The ads capped a good week for Hutchinson, despite low turnout in his IP primary victory ...

5. Ventura's election was one of our nations lows.
Bush's selection was lower, Arnold's coup against Grey Davis was even lower, and Bush getting a second term was even lower, and if Kinky Friedman wins, that will be another low.
