Wong tapes over Republican, while Cohen never put Democrat on hers

In a sticky solution to a political problem, state Rep. Martha Wong has taped over reference to her Republican Party affiliation on some yard signs she's using in her bid for a third term.

Campaign officials say demand for her signs was so high that they had to recycle old ones, and obscured the party label with tape to make them consistent with 2006 signs that do not include a GOP label.

Challenger Ellen Cohen — whose campaign provided photos of Wong's taped signs — suggests Wong is running from her party. But Cohen's signs similarly neglect to mention that she's a Democrat.

In a race that could hang on the votes of independents focusing more on issues than party affiliation, both candidates are downplaying partisanship.

1. re: no signs of GOP

I noticed that occuring during the primaries up here in PA, and more recently signs of candidates for the mid-terms

GOP candidates do not have their party mentioned anywhere on the lawn signs or billboards...

about 1/2 of the signs I see for Dem candidates do mention the Democratic party

2. I hate that and it has been done for years.

I had a yelling fight with a man in the yard one day. He was handing out information and I asked what party he was. It was the wrong thing to do and he got mad then I got mad. It was not on the paper and he would not tell me. All it did was tell me all he was gong to give me plus cut my tax. I have the balls to ask. How can you give me more for less tax? My sister stood there laughing at us both. He was in the GOP as I went and looked him up. He told me he had been in the same office for years. Signs are going up now and not one has a party on them so far. And I will give you odds that all information for both parties will tell me the same thing. They will give me more and cut my tax.

we could have a taxcut and everything else too.. and look where that got us

from a balanced budget and surpluses to brazillions in the hole and an imbalanced budget that will take decades, perhaps generations to fix

7. I do not think they thought it up

GOP is not great on new stuff but seem to re-use things. So much of life is just re-used stuff you know. I mean Cheney acts like von Bismarck and Bush acts like the last Czar. One loves war and power and the other feels it is his divine right to rule, even if badly. To hold power I do not put past a Oct. war to keep in power.

3. That's happening in my district too.

A couple of weeks ago, a woman knocked on my door, handing out literature for her husband, who's running for local office. I took one of her brochures & asked what his party affiliation was, because it wasn't listed anywhere. She replied that he was a Republican, a conservative, & would cut taxes. Since this is a blue oasis in a very red state, I'm not surprised he kept his party affiliation hidden.

4. The same here in East TN

No indication of party affiliation. The Democratic politicians use to do it because this is a very conservative area (they are conservatives Not neocons). Now the republics are leaving their party affiliation off their advertising too. So the signs are very confusing.

5. Rarely is there an easily visable party name on candidate signs up here..

certainly not with the local races.

It seems that Repubs are mostly red, Dems are mostly blue however there are the red, white and blue, hot pink, orange, etc that could be either or neither. I've also been noticing more green and white which I think are usually Indies... but.. :shrug:

It's also not always very easy to find info on local candidates either which drives me bonkers. After meeting a few folks up here that call themselves Dems that were most assuredly RW Repubs and Repus that were definately Progressive in their way of thinking I'm a it leary of voting a straight ticket without knowing the candidates. It seems that quite a few folks up here register and remain what their parents were even when it's not what they believe. :headbang:
