Powell Was Fired By Bush
MSNBC...

Apparently Powell was fired by Bush right after re-election.

This has long been suspected. Andy Card did the dirty work.

1. This is being leaked now...
This is being leaked now so they can paint Powell as a disgruntled man with a grudge from being fired. Like they did with Richard Clarke & Paul O'Neill.

I haven't heard this one before. Powell was FIRED by Bush?? Thats not what ANYBODY said back when (2005) Where is this coming from?
That would mean that Powell lied about his reasons for leaving.

4. Well, its kind of true
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/27/AR2006092700106.html?sub=AR
He was pushed out. I don't think there's any real news here. Neither powell or Bush would say Bush fired him and Bush didn't do it in any case--Card did.
Whats really notable about this is that Card did it instead of Bush. This is the way Bush works, someone else is always the hatchet man. Bush Jr was hatchet man for his Dad. Bush has a whole thing about pretending to be a "nice guy."
I think this is another attempt by Powell to distance himself from the Bush administration, something he'll never be able to do.
He's right--his big moment in history will not be the excellent way he managed the 1st Gulf War, its the way hs ladled up the ol' phonus balonus at the UN. And he knows it. He knows he's going down in history as a big part of the effort that set up the most disastrous war in American History.
I think this is just more from a rat who jumped the sinking ship explaining why he jumped it.

3. Does anybody think Powell is so tired of the bullshit Bush and his
cadre of corruption have been spreading that he may be considering running for office somewhere down the line as a Democrat?

5. I hope the Dems would kick him to the curb
We don't want someone who would so willingly propagate a lie. Even if he didn't know it was false when he said it (which I don't believe for a minute) he thereafter did his best up to this time to support a disastrous course. He cold have been so much more but he took the small route.
We don't need people like him in the Democratic Party.

7. Didn't we more
or less assume this at the time? I always did. Powell was too much at odds with the Bush foreign policy.
