Everybody loves a sex scandal
Yes, that's extremely cynical when it is about a man of power predatorially having a relationship with a young boy. And I do not, for one minute, want to make light of the impact of all this on the young man (several young men, perhaps) involved in this.

But this story will have legs.

And well it should.

I hope it stinks to high heaven for weeks and weeks of good old fashioned 'drip drip drip'.

And the Dems had better damned well be all over this.

For all the outrage we of the 'informed left' feel about a host of issues, this is the one that will sell newspapers and get viewers to tune in.

Disgusting, salacious, horrible, and, sadly, titillating to far too many.

This story has the potential to tilt the very axis of the political world.

But it needs to be pushed. Are the Dems up for that? If not the party (and I can certainly understand the official party not pushing it too hard) then we the grassroots and netroots.

Pardon my personal (and to some probably distasteful) cynicism, but we need to ride this horse through November.

1. Let's hope this doesn't backfire on Democrats the way the
Clinton scandal backfired on Republicans. If a Democrat is outed for this behavior, our leadership should act as soon as they learn about it.

2. That's not cynical, it's realistic.

This story won't be stopped by anyone complaining about it. Yes there are 100 more important stories, but this one will be in the headlines, no matter what.

The best thing to do when faced with a juggernaut of a story is to ride it, and by that I mean develop segues such that when it comes up, you can veer into other areas, like cronyism (fox in the henhouse cronyism), abramoff (Oh yeah Foley was into that as well), general GOP hypocrasy, and anything else you can dovetail.

3. You're exactly right ..... as demonstrated here:
From another thread of mine: Parents of America, your children are at grave risk. You can save them.

In it, I make the example of a segue as you suggest:

After talking about the scandal itself, I wrote

The disgusting hypocrisy is incredibly clear. Read the stories, follow the news. It will be clear. This is not an isolated incident. It is a pattern of long standing for Republicans to posture like peacocks against the very things they themselves do with impunity and glee.

And if we can't trust them with the basic well being of our children, how can we risk the well being of our country?

These men - these Republicans - can not be trusted. Think about that when you go to the polls this coming November 7.

4. its not the e-mails!!!
its the GOP house leadership covering it up, withholding it from the one Dem on the page oversight committee, deciding that preserving a "safe" seat was more important than ridding the house of sexual predators.

its very easy for parents everywhere to understand and totally indefensible.

SHAMEFUL in every sense of the word.
