Republican Talking Point: Gas is cheaper than a month ago -Hoo..f**kin rah
snip

"...Carl Forti, the spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. “Right now people are excited they are not paying $3 a gallon anymore, and frankly, so am I. Today, in every place in America, gas is cheaper than a month ago.”

The sudden decline has also ignited suspicions that the Republican administration and giant oil companies conspired to cut gasoline prices for electoral gains.

“I think prices are going down now because it’s election time but I feel they will go back up again right after,” said Roberta Mays, a school bus driver in Knox, Pa.

Her opinion was reflected in a Sept. 15-17 Gallup poll, which found that 42 percent of respondents said that they believed the Bush administration was manipulating the price of gasoline in advance of the fall elections.

2. Democratic Talking Point:
Gas was $1.29 when Bush took over. Why are we excited to pay a dollar more than we were paying 6 years ago?

Also, when are you going to address the Republican pedophile sex scandal? Oh wait, that's day after never.

9. No tinfoil hat required as Bob Woodward confirms these suspicions
In a claim that could fuel conspiracy theories about the recent oil price decline – in an interview to be broadcast on CBS on Sunday – Mr Woodward described a conversation between Prince Bandar bin Sultan and Mr Bush in which the former Saudi ambassador said he could ease oil prices ahead of the elections.

"They could go down very quickly. That's the Saudi pledge. Certainly over the summer, or as we get closer to the election, they could increase production several million barrels a day," Mr Woodward said.

7. If gas prices stay down for six months, then the market has stabilized
If the market is down one month then back up the next month, then the market is unstable (erratic or out of equilibrium) meaning outside forces are coming into play.

8. Question in response: Why was gas over $3 to begin with?
Repubs have been in power fully for a while. Suggestion that they are the reason gas is falling is a suggestion they are the reason it was high to begin with.

12. It just went up in my home town by about .05
I presume that means the GOP has conceded MN.

Everyone I talk to think the prices dropped because of the election. It is a great snide comment when ever anyone is talking about the prices. I'll say something like, "And what will it be the week after the election." And everyone nods and agrees. It's great, because saying that just evinces cynicism, and the nods cross all political lines.

13. Tell your Repug buddy gas prices on average cost $1.20 more since 2000
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 07:26 PM by zulchzulu
http://www.energy.ca.gov/gasoline/statistics/gasoline_cpi_adjusted.html

In 2000, it was $1.66/gallon on average and in 2006, it's $2.86/gallon.

Oddly, the price is expected to go back up after the elections.

Why would that be?

And... during 8 years of Clinton, the price went from $1.09 in 1992 to 1.66. That's .56 cents difference.

14. Conversation starter at the pump...
Mine is "... X more cents and I win my bet!"

When the other pumper looks at me puzzled I tell them that I bet a co-worker that the gas companies would have gas prices down to $2 by election day in order to buy our vote. I say this loud enough so that others can hear me.

Works remarkably well

15. But
It is still almost a dollar higher than when President Clinton left office.

Remember when gas prices started to rise during President Clinton administration..Sennesenbrener from WI said that President Clinton should call the Saudi's and get on bended knee and ask them to lower it.

But when prices went thru the roof, and people started saying bush should call the Saudis and ask them to lower prices...Sennesenbrener was the first to say, the president of the United States should not have to bow to anybody....In case you didn't know Sennesy baby is a republican.

16. If Republicans are responsible for gas prices being low, then shouldn't
they have always remained low ? I mean if the Republicans had the power to bring down the cost of gas gradually, then aren't they also responsible for it going up and costing us so much this summer ???
