I guess I'm happy that left wing candidates are permissible to mention on a progressive website, but keeping them on the margins even here isn't truly a cause for celebration.
It's better than the New York Times, but that says almost nothing.

7. You have a really good point. |

DU should be named PU - okay, so we'll work on that. But I mean Democratic Underground should be re-named Progressive Underground. I mean it is in no way associated with the democratic party, the posters here are much more progressive than the voters in the democratic party and we're all welcome.
However, when the nominee is named - poof - everyone is expected to fall into lockstep.
If this was an arm of the party, fine, but it's not. There are a lot of greens and socialists and even democrats who just aren't going to vote ABB on this site.
I believe you've really hit on something. What possible interest could the Admin have in squelching our beliefs? Let's get together and ask about some changes. The general election will be upon us and, I'm afraid, so will Kerry.
DU is going to lose about 1/2 its membership if it doesn't realize people are here to talk progressive, not party line!

10. You may have overstated your case. |

I am grateful for your support, but I do not believe that the DU admins are squelching your or my beliefs. I am more intersted in patterns of discourse.
Cheers.

keep them in the margins. There are thousands more supporters of Kerry, Clark, Edwards, and Dean, than there are of DK or AS. They have been included in the televised debates. You are free to put as many posts here as, say, a Clark supporter. I have not read anything disrespectful about Dennis on here; everyone agrees that in a gentler, kinder world, he would be wonderful. Even in this violent, hateful society, he's wonderful! But he has virtually ZERO chance of being elected president. Way behind him in the running is Rev. Sharpton. People on here have divided opinions; no big deal, he is a divisive character. I think he has matured, and adds a lot to the campaign. But neither of these fellows has been marginalized by conspiracy: there are a lot fewer people supporting them, that's all.

You put that better than I could. I really didn't want to offend anyone. I was just trying to be honest and realistic, based mostly on actual votes and some on the various polls.
