So what would be happening now if Foley was a democrat and...
...they found out that the democratic leadership hid the story for FIVE years.

It just disgusts me how some of these right-wing screeds & pundits are downplaying the fact that Mark Foley, a REPUBLICAN, and his ilk have hidden this story for so long. How many children were harmed in this cover-up. It absolutely disgusts me.

I mean say what you will about Bill Clinton, at least it was a CONSENTING ADULT!

1. Armed guards would have stormed Pelosi's Office
Handcuffs on all concerned.

2. I don't know how any person with a shred of decency about them...
... can call themselves a Republican these days.

:(

9. True, but this is only the latest in a long series of outrages
There are any number of episodes which, individually, should cause us to ask "what kind of person can still call him or herself a Republican?"

Yet they keep coming back, more devoted than ever. I suspect that contingent of voters this November will actually be rallied to the GOP's cause, under the assumption that Foley was done in by a Liberal conspiracy.

6. The GOP leadership's
defense of Rep. Jefferson seems to make sense now. It had nothing to do with him but for the precedent of taking info from offices to protect their own.

7. I hate to say it...
but given the information we have now, some democrats would probably point out that
1. No one is even alleging that he had any kind of sex with a minor.
2. The emails that were sent were to someone who was 16 years old, which is of legal age in Washington D.C.
3. While this is "inappropriate", it is not illegal or sufficient to overturn the results of the voters of his district.

10. I'd love to use that excuse if I were caught by a sting operation
I'm sooooo sure that the Police would understand ...

:eyes: :sarcasm:

It's called a sexual predator ... and isn't Foley one of those who was so much into punishing people who do such a thing? Oh, wait, now I get it ... punishing ...

:spank:

11. Which excuse?
That no crime was committed? The police don't always understand, but sometimes the DA does.

12. # 1 - if you think about it, Foley was trying to arrange a meeting with
the kid ... it just never got to the stage of making it happen ...

Usually, at this point, the "13-year old curious about sex" girl (or boy) agrees to meet with the perp ... and the "teen" arrests the predator ...

Anybody but a Republican, and this would have already been enough evidence to throw the book at the perp ...

14. Yes, but in this case, the boy was
old enough to consent (16 years old). That makes all the difference, legally speaking.

8. There would be no other news on the cable networks.
It would be a 27/7 Foley watch. Face time for the GOP blowhards would be 100%. The indignation would be off the charts. Repedophiles would be demanding the resignation of Democrats across the board.

and the Republicans would be whining, bigtime, too. :sarcasm:

Seriously though, Democrats would never have allowed this to go on for 5 years, and would have condemned it in the clearest of terms by now. And, the MSM would have followed him to rehab and made life a living hell for him and his family by now, too.
