Time's Up, Denny - even the Wash Times says it's time for you to go
"The facts of the disgrace of Mark Foley, who was a Republican member of the House from a Florida district until he resigned last week, constitute a disgrace for every Republican member of Congress. Red flags emerged in late 2005, perhaps even earlier, in suggestive and wholly inappropriate e-mail messages to underage congressional pages. His aberrant, predatory -- and possibly criminal -- behavior was an open secret among the pages who were his prey. The evidence was strong enough long enough ago that the speaker should have relieved Mr. Foley of his committee responsibilities contingent on a full investigation to learn what had taken place, whether any laws had been violated and what action, up to and including prosecution, were warranted by the facts. This never happened.

. . .

House Speaker Dennis Hastert must do the only right thing, and resign his speakership at once. Either he was grossly negligent for not taking the red flags fully into account and ordering a swift investigation, for not even remembering the order of events leading up to last week's revelations -- or he deliberately looked the other way in hopes that a brewing scandal would simply blow away. He gave phony answers Friday to the old and ever-relevant questions of what did he know and when did he know it? Mr. Hastert has forfeited the confidence of the public and his party, and he cannot preside over the necessary coming investigation, an investigation that must examine his own inept performance.

2. You may be right - but either way, he's gone
The Republicans in his own caucus are absolutely furious with him for leaving them hanging like this. They're gonna blame somebody and he's the most convenient - and deserving - target.

10. That would be a dream come true!
Don't wimp out, Denny. Make 'em shove you out. You're innocent, shout it from the rooftops. The microphones are on.

4. The editorial suggests that Henry Hyde replace Hastert
Has the Wash Times forgotten about Hyde's affair with a married woman that broke up the woman's marriage? As I recall, Hyde said it was a youthful mistake, but he was over 40 at the time.

5. Hey - she wasn't underage, so what's yer problem?
Under the sliding standard of decency for the GOP, Hyde did nothing wrong. He's good as gold.

6. Henry Hyde is retiring.
Hyde is not even running for re-election this time and so he is ineligible to become Speaker of the House.

7. Reynolds
"It's astounding to me as a parent or a grandparent that anyone would insinuate that I would seek to cover up inappropriate conduct between an adult and a child," Reynolds said, flanked by about 30 children and as many parents.
-----
:eyes:Because he's a parent, he's automatically not guilty? That's like saying murderers are human, so it's astounding to insinuate they'd try to conver up inappropriate conduct between his hand, the knife, and the victim.

11. If Wash Times says he must go...then he MUST stay!
The Moonie Goppers are mad at Fat Denny for embarrassing the GOP. They want him to go. He's hurting their chances in the upcoming election. The Repugs might lose more seats if he stays on.

Um...I think I want Hastert to stay right where he is. And I hope The Wash Times continues to call for his resignation.
