Beware the New-Wave Republicans: A Very Partisan Post |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 12:30 AM by _dynamicdems
The new wave of Republicanism is going to be insidious. Where the rise of the Neocons was like getting hit with a brick, the next phase is going to be like being caressed by a silk-gloved hand. We must not be fooled, however; the glove is far more deadly than the brick.
The reign of the Neocons is nearly at an end. Neocons are already dinosaurs (as they were meant to be all along) and, when they go the way of all extinct species, their legacy will be that they will have achieved their goal: the Lindsey Grahams and others of the “new breed of Republicans” will be ready to succeed them as the dominant species in "Republicania" projecting a kinder and more progressive image that will be readily embraced because of the sharp contrast between them and their predecessors.
The rise of the Neocons was fairly easy to achieve. We've had a clash of cultures and a lot of anger festering in our country for quite some time. The Neocon movement capitalized on this discontent by making use of both ethnocentric phobias and religious teachings, which might seem odd bedfellows, but are actually not if you look at history.
The Neocons were meant to be the first wave of the domination. The movement was never meant to exist long-term. They came in, offered people what the most base of their natures secretly wanted and they rapidly rose to power. Sustaining the power is another matter: people only suffer oppression for so long and America is the perfect place for short-term oppression to be put down. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave, you see. We'll defeat the Neocons, but that's because we were meant to. They came in and seized the power required to make the changes they needed, sort of like clearing brush (pun intended) in an area prior to planting something.
And just when we think we have won, the next wave will begin. They will be the "reasonable Republicans" and they will be charming and compassionate and willing to compromise. These won’t be your red-faced, ranting, mud-slinging Republicans in the ilk of Cheney, Bush or Hastert. These will be your reasonable Republicans. They will work on a greater number of bi-partisan projects and legislation with Democrats. They will reach across the aisle in a way that the Neocons never did. And they will gain the trust of those who should know better. The New-Wave Republicans will be embraced like that wooden horse of legend and they will be just as deadly to our democracy.
If Carl Rove has a plan, it most certainly isn’t a plan for just 2006 or even for 2008 alone: it is a plan for complete domination of our country. It is a plan to change our entire course and perhaps that of the world. Neoconism was an effective method, but for the next phase, they need to use something with a little more finesse.
When we think we have won, then it’s time to really start worrying. Neocons are obvious. They are like an invading army and are quite easy to spot. The Next-Wave will be more like the “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” because the enemy will appear and sound just like reasonable human beings. But they won’t be.
They will be bi-partisan and reasonable only when the stakes are small or when they have their sites on a larger prize. We must be vigilant and we must maintain our Democracy. Do not vote for any conservatives or Republicans under any circumstances. To do so would be at our own peril.

1. Only if the "New Wave" will bed the Religious Right. |
|
They can only approach a majority if they can deliver the RR vote. To do this, they need to overtly support their agenda. If they don't, they'll lose their majority coalition. If they do, they are no different than the criminals who control the Syndicate today.

2. They will bed anyone who can help them. They aren't going to be |

fundamentally any different from the Neocons, they'll just look reasonable. They'll help the Religious Right until as long as the Religious Right continues to be a strong voting block.

8. Oh sure they do. Diebold only helps. |

Diebold is most dangerous in a close election. If it is a landslide for Dems and the machines come up with a Repug winner...well, let's just quote the Beatles for this one, "So you say you want a revolution..?

9. Sad to say, this is probably true. |

We can't get paranoid, however. But we do have a right to expect our leaders to protect our interests: hence the term, "public servant." Keeping a close watch on the votes in the House and Senate and chosing new primary candidates when necessary is important. Perfect example: Lieberman.

Conservative Republicans are not charming. They will ALWAYS have their racist ideologies to trip them up. And, if you listen carefully, you'll hear that they are planning to be the heir apparent once they through the Hasteret-Delay-Frist types under the bus.
Second, the only people who will fall for this crap are the Lieberman types in the Democratic party. Yes, your Centrists may be susceptible too. So I suggest you let the Obama's in the party set the pace and go left from there.

10. The liberal politicians are the best. |
|
Obama has potential, but he's been a little too conservative for my liking (some of his votes). I'm willing to give him time though: this is his first term and his caution is understandable.
Conservative Republicans are not charming to you or I, but to America, they can be. Right now the country is starting to become aware of the neocon BS, so they are more than ready to be duped by more rational appearing Republicans. A good example of this is Rudy Guiliani (sp?). The best quote I've heard about him is from Bill Maher (I'm probably paraphrasing), "...and Rudy Guiliani can go back to his normal status of asshole."

11. Exactly. He's about as radical and hawkish as they come. |

This man will start WWIII if he gets the chance. He's the most dangerous man on the planet bar none. He has a chance to become President, and if he does...(see the ending of Dr. Strangelove).
