Foley's Folly: US version of the Profumo scandal of 1963?
A scandal crushed the Tories in the UK. Will this scandal crush the GOP majority in the US? Check out this article from (gasp), the Washington Times...

"When predators are found they must be dealt with, forcefully and swiftly. This time the offender is a Republican, and Republicans can't simply "get ahead" of the scandal by competing to make the most noise in calls for a full investigation. The time for that is long past. House Speaker Dennis Hastert must do the only right thing, and resign his speakership at once."

1. I hope you are correct
Not that I want to see a one party rule in this country, we have tried that and look where we are now.
This country needs two parties, but the Republicans have to go! They are the root of most of the problems this nation is experiencing today.

4. Well, it's the US we're dealing with here, and frankly I don't
feel comfortable at all about grown men preying on 16 yr old boys. I'm not concerned about the confusion of people in other countries at all.

3. It's a partial analogy
Profumo was hardly a predator. If he hadn't lied to the House of Commons it would never have become a public issue. The Conservatives were doomed to go anyway. Neither Christine nor Mandy were underage so there was no legal issues from that respect. You run the risk here of the analogy being drawn against "another" far closer to us all.

5. It's only analagious in the sense that it is sex-related and could
swing the pendelum from GOP control to Dem control.

8. Profumo also involved the Russians
At least one of the woman was involved with both a Russian officer and Profumo. Sex was not the main issue in Britain.
