Republicans seem to be imploding - now do we have enough
strength to take over?

The Democrats have been so overwhelmed by Republicans for the last few years. Do we have enough strong people to handle all that may be coming down the line?

We might end up with a Democratic Congress and a Democratic President.

Wouldn't that be something?

It's not just the Foley and Ney and Abramhoff stuff. This deal with Rice looks like it may have legs, too. It is turning out that more and more people in this adm. were warned by Tenet and none of them paid any attention - and then they all conveniently "forgot" all the warnings.

To me, this is way bigger than a sex scandal.

3. I really don't think that will happen.
If it does we will have to impeach on grounds of total insanity.

Nah, these guys just seem to be sliding down the sleeze slide - but who would have thought it would happen so fast. Last week they were talking about an October surprise and now it turns out the surprise was on them.

2. I think it's enough to take the house and possibly the senate
BUT we can't get lazy we need to hang on to it leading into 2008. We screwed ourselves in 2002 when we took the senate.

6. Not to be pessimistic, but I have learned from the past 6 years...
... not to get too excited until elections are won. Hasn't happened yet.

There have been plenty of weeks like this, plenty of scandals, plenty of damning evidence, and worse ratings for Bush than even now. We need to make sure we win seats, preferably enough to gain House AND Senate control, and then the White House in 2008.

At this point, those are the only things that will get me excited, and it will be after the fact, not before.

7. Yes, it may all just disappear. We are having really nasty
campaign ads here in Missouri - just awful stuff. And we still have 5 weeks until the election.

9. I am glad you qualify your statements with words like
"seem", "might", and "looks like". It's the 3rd quarter and it doesn't look good for the Republicans and they've had some turnovers, but the game ain't over yet. There are still 5 weeks to go and there is lots that the Republicans can control which the Democrats cannot. In keeping with the sports' metaphor, now is the time to keep putting points on the board and not letting up. It is not the time to start dancing and celebrating our run to the winning touchdown while holding out the football on the way to the end zone only to have the ball knocked out of our hands before we reach it. There is a quote by American writer John Greenleaf Whittier which is worth remembering: “For all sad words of tongue and pen, The saddest are these, 'It might have been'.”

10. no. there is still a lot of time before elections. and many terror alerts

yet to come. Maybe even a new front on terror by bombing Iran.

even so, the GOP is spending 250 million plus, and has had time to solidify the base by rigging districts to thier favor.
