Man arrested for talking to Cheney
http://www.correntewire.com/man_tells_cheney_i_think_your_iraq_policies_are_reprehensible_is_handcuffed_jailed

Attorney David Lane said that on June 16, Steve Howards was walking his 7-year-old son to a piano practice, when he saw Cheney surrounded by a group of people in an outdoor mall area, shaking hands and posing for pictures with several people.

According to the lawsuit filed at U.S. District Court in Denver, Howards and his son walked to about two-to-three feet from where Cheney was standing, and said to the vice president, “I think your policies in Iraq are reprehensible,” or words to that effect, then walked on.

Ten minutes later, according to Howards’ lawsuit, he and his son were walking back through the same area, when they were approached by Secret Service agent Virgil D. “Gus” Reichle Jr., who asked Howards if he had “assaulted” the vice president. Howards denied doing so, but was nonetheless placed in handcuffs and taken to the Eagle County Jail.

56. More to the point how about the 1st Amendment right to peaceably assemble
and seek redress of grievances from the gov't?

That is what he and his son literally did.

Open and shut case of violating his civil rights... sue sue sue..

29. Now I know why my husband BEGS me to please shut up and not say anything
when we are in Jackson Hole, Wyoming visiting friends and family. A couple of times, while in town, the black SUV's drive up, and my husband just says "Please honey, don't say a word...I want my children to have a Mom at home".

Isn't that amazing? To think that I couldn't be in a public place where Cheney and family show up and as they say "hi" or shop and look at people that I couldn't even tell them that I think they are despicable creatures that have destroyed our country - Especially since its true???

Sigh...so yes, I have shut my mouth, but I will confess when I see Airforce 2 at the airport or flying overhead, I give him the 1 finger salute.

Gee, will they arrest me for that too???

40. I agree...its really the only circumstance in which I do shut up!
And its only because my husband pleads with me...I figure that in 2+ years, when the fat shit is just another resident of Jackson, WY and is a public citizen again, then I can tell him and Lynne et all to go FUCheney themselves (sort of like what he said to Leahy).

Otherwise, in all other circumstances, I have spoken out and won't shut up. Thursday I plan on taking the Pachababies downtown into San Francisco and push the stroller and protest for the "World Can't Wait" Protests.

:hi:

PS: I think Pachapapa is wise...I think that in this circumstance, its best that I am available and around to be raising the kids and saving my energies for other forms of protest.

they mentioned whose house he's going to be at for a fundraiser... I'm so tempted to go tell him his policies and admin are reprehensible... but of course, now that I can be "disappeared" I'm not so sure it would be the wise thing to do.

But then isn't that just letting them get away with it? Argh! No fair.

I too will still protest at the organized events. Can't stop me doing that.

Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 01:40 PM by MissMarple
I've never read Glenn Greenwald before.

"UPDATE III: John Aravosis says that he has now "confirmed" the story above -- that it was indeed Rep. Reynolds' Chief of Staff, Kirk Fordham, who tried on behalf of Mark Foley to convince ABC to suppress the IMs. For the reason I explained above, I think this is a huge revelation. It means that the Chief of Staff for the current NRCC Chair, a key GOP House leadership position, tried on behalf of Foley -- after he knew of the IMs -- to block the public from learning about the IMs by offering ABC an exclusive interview with Foley in exchange for ABC's agreement to conceal those messages.

That means that the top aide to one of the Republican House leaders, as recently as last Friday, tried to suppress the most incriminating and important facts regarding this scandal. Isn't that the very definition of "cover-up"?"

Thanks, bunches. I'll post it again.

38. Here's what he should have done:
Police hunt farting dissident

"Police in Poland have launched a nationwide hunt for a man who farted loudly when asked what he thought of the president.

Hubert Hoffman, 45, was charged with "contempt for the office of the head of state" for his actions after he was stopped by police in a routine check at a Warsaw railway station.

He complained that under President Lech Kaczynski and his twin brother Jaroslaw, the country was returning to a Communist style dictatorship.

When told to show more respect for the country's rulers, he farted loudly and was promptly arrested..."

73. Right. There's a little more to the story I think
I don't think the Secret Service should have arrested the guy. But I am trying to envision someone walking right up to the VP and saying "I think your policies in Iraq are reprehensible" and then walking away. Maybe the guy got several feet away and yelled something, probably obscene. I mean c'mon, "I think your policies in Iraq are reprehensible"? If you got within 3 feet of Cheney, is that what you would say? Still doesn't justify his arrest, though.

60. Excellent work, Eagle county...
I know that we seem like (and technically are) a "red state"...
But the truth is, Denver county, Boulder county, and every single county with a major ski resort (AKA anywhere any reasonable person would want to live in Colorado... yes, I know the Springs is pretty, but there's hate in the water) went blue in 2004.
Eagle county dropped the charges because, everywhere in Colorado where we have education, diversity, and quality of life, we are still good people.

62. I should clarify...
... There are certainly good people elsewhere, in the Springs and on the plains and in Denver's suburbs (my parents are in Jefferson county, home of Columbine and Faith Bible Chapel, and the ugliest conceivable politically-motivated social-conservative evangelical-xtians) but unfortunately, they are in the minority. I thank the people who live in these places and try to "be the change". I didn't mean to suggest you are unreasonable, only that your cities/towns are, in general. Thank you for being true to goodness and reality in a climate unfriendly to it. Thank you!!

77. Sorry, but Steve should know better. Was he in a free speech cage?
The constitution has been declared null and void with the invalidation of habeus corpus. You can argue with these monarchists and maybe you'll find a judge that doesn't know yet. Good Luck.
