It started with Nixon, and repugs STILL don't get it.
It's not the DEED that gets you.
It's the COVER-UP.

In almost every political peccadillo where the miscreant confesses his sins and begs forgiveness the electorate is usually very forgiving.

It's the stonewalling, the silence, the lies, the obfuscation, the cover-up that cooks your goose every time.

1. This one might be different...

if there are a ring of rethug pedophiles in congress, then trying to cover up ( while horrible )
might well have been worth the risk. If they simply did the right thing and threw Foley under
the bus wheels... he might have started naming names...

That along with the corruption scandals might well have made the Republicans a permanent minority
party (the Christian conservatives might have splintered off and formed their own "Party of God").
