The Foley scandal is fascinating, but I wonder what we're turning
our backs on in order to focus on this (not that we shouldn't keep digging since another Republican cover up is important).

I just wonder, can a story this hot actually keep burning for five weeks? AND what else is going on in Washington and the rest of the world that we ARE NOT talking about?

Woodward's book and the allegations contained therein?

MORE deaths in Iraq?

Iran?

Want to add to the list????

1. How about the bill passed last week that made Bush a dictator?
Not much being said about THAT right now...

11. Bush already acted as a dictator before this bill
This was a CYA bill, presumably because someone's told them that Diebold won't save them this time

3. We are not turning our backs on anything.
At least I am not. We need to throw everything we have at these clowns. If we get an October sex scandal: GREAT! We should of course include ALL THE OTHER MISDEEDS that are the hallmark of this administration and the Republican Party.

4. It's funny - Nixon was forced from office because of Watergate
"officially" - but his sins were far greater than a second rate break-in and subsequent cover up.......

5. Trust. Woodward is not going to go away.
Foley is sucking some air out of things, but there's plenty left for Woodward.

Also, the Foley mess is going to move quickly. It is utterly blowing up in Repuke faces and nothing they are doing about it is working to defuse it. By the end of the week Hastert will be gone and when they see the repercussions on other House races the whole damned House leadership may be in shambles.

Then, Woodward will take its rightful place on the front page.

Neither of these issues are going to go away.

6. Look, if this scandal gets rid of this filthy corrupt GOP...
...then I couldn't be happier.

I'll be the first to agree that it's been a long time coming and certainly there are plenty of scandals, but if this causes the public to finally say enough, we can deal with the other shit when we take back the congress.

9. So agree! And, we can multi-task. I can pay attention to more
than one negative story (about repugs) at a time. Hell, I look forward to it!

13. I don't think much is being missed, but the fact is, this scandal ......
..... beats every other issue all to hell for sheer political firepower.

It may not be more important, but it sure is more effective for our chances in the midterms.

16. Can it actually last for five weeks?

I just think we also need to remain focused on what Congress is doing and what is going on around us.

Otherwise two weeks from now and several news cycles from now the Foley scandal will be all talked out and we'll be holding our.... well, I don't want us to lose focus.

14. Well it takes Iraq off the news cycle,
but as many here have said sex seems to be the only thing RW'er hear! If this one issue keeps them at home on election day, then i'm happy about that.

19. What a lot of people are missing is that many "Republicans" (meaning
those that are preached to 24/7 by the corporate media) have had feelings of unease for the last few years. Families working 80 hours a week, coming home to children who have needs, homework, etc. They are going through life exhausted.

They listen to the "bitching," but they want to trust the government. After all, the teevee tells them that the liberals are unAmerican. They are bad. It's not really torture, Saddam was bad, etc, etc.

Most Americans don't believe in torture, so they call it coercion. Most Americans don't believe in wiretapping, so they ask "do you have something to hide?" The spinning goes on and on.

This scandal is the wake up call, because every parent understands it, and understands they are being spun. They are having no part of the spinning. They understand this issue. Trust is broken.

Since Friday, I have had one person ask me about Ohio 2004, another ask about the Mariannas and another ask what waterboarding really is.

There are people out there seeking answers beyond the Foley scandal. The Foley scandal has brought all these feeling of unease together. The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.
