Wisconsin governor to candidates: Play fair, please
Associated Press

MADISON, Wis. - With his state shaping up as a key battleground for Democrats, Gov. Jim Doyle challenged the presidential candidates to stay positive in the campaign for Wisconsin's Feb. 17 primary election.

Doyle urged them Friday to focus on issues important to the state's residents, such as health care, the economy, jobs and education.

"One of the great things about the nominating process so far has been that it's been about the candidates offering plans, and laying out their visions for the future, instead of just attacking each other," Doyle said. "Let's keep that positive approach going ...."

Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts immediately agreed to comply, saying in a statement that, "I wholeheartedly accept his challenge and pledge to continue to run a positive, issue-based campaign."

There was no immediate response from the other candidates
