Latest Repub Arg. re: Foley - Cabal of Gay Aides covered up

for Foley for years.

Josh Marshal thinks this may be the next volley that the Repub. party lobs to distance themselves from the Foley mess.

Apparently Fordham (who came out yesterday saying that he had notified the Speakers people that Foley was a problem back 3 years ago) is openly gay. So now the argument will be that a whole bunch of gay aides have been covering up for Foley for years.

I hate to see the gays being dragged thru the mud like this. There is a huge difference between "gay" and "pedophile." This is really pretty awful, if they decide to go this way with their argument.

Josh marshall is following this story really closely.

1. Might not be a good Idea.
I'm sure these gay republican aides have quite a bit of dirt on the repubs.

2. Yeah, Lawrence O'Donnell was discussing this last night.
He predicted that the story will shift to the staffers; the focus will be on them and the "Velvet Mafia" on the Hill, the group that makes sure gay congressman stay in line. Republicans can't ever let their base know about their gay members or they'll be screwed. So - unfortunately, this is a story that will play out and probably end up causing the fundies to competely disengage from the Republican Party.

I agree - I hate to see gays dragged through the mud like this. But you know, if they didn't play it both ways and were honest about their sexuality, wouldn't be an issue. It's the Republicans' battle and they've done it to themselves; phonies that they are.

6. I heard that too, didn't understand
quite what they were talking about, but guess we will soon.

Matthews was talking about how many gay politicians there were (I think he even said republican, not sure though) and how surprised people would be. But he said something about how they weren't at all inappropriate and that gay wasn't the issue here at all.

Some republican's are saying the stupidest things to shift blame, how gays are more likely to molest or think of sex more or this is what happens when you try to be tolerant or how Monica was 19 and all sorts of lies. In fact their lies are growing about this as a Dem plot. Crazy.

Probably would have worked better if they had just told the truth.

doing that to us for decades. They managed to whip up hatred of us into a frenzy in the last 2 elections and change the constitutions of many states to indoctrinate their hate. If dragging us through the mud a little while longer means they lose, then I think I can wait for a Dem Congress to take a shower.
