Media seems to have a short memory these days... On the first day they broke the Foley child-molesting scandal, CNN called it part of a
"perfect storm" in politics but by day two some of the
forecasters were already predicting the ominous clouds would all blow over soon. Of course, like some small-market, two-bit weather girl, forecasters have plenty of advise for those nasty "Democrats" who rarely get mentioned by name. Democrats should "stay silent" or voters might see these assaults on children as political in nature.
Those damn "Democrats" might even get blamed for this whole sordid affair, if they knew of the e-mails but failed to promptly report the crimes. When did they say Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) first learned of Foley's sexual appetite for young boys? Was it "last spring" or have they once again revised the time-table?
Gee, I hope those "Democrats" can weather this storm,
as media furnishes the Republicans with free umbrellas. I remember a "Democrat" who doesn't fear a bit of foul weather and his comments toward a Republican that was helping to cover up warnings about a political tornado that was ripping through the heartland of America.
Do you remember when the good Doctor waded out into a media fire-storm with these comments? WASHINGTON, DC -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Governor Howard Dean issued the following statement regarding the Republicans abusive use of power and the corruption scandal surrounding Tom DeLay:
"The Republican Party is leaving this country with a legacy of debt, deceit and divisiveness. When Tom DeLay broke the ethics laws of the United States Congress, he along with Speaker Dennis Hastert and their Republican cohorts changed the rules to protect him. They fired the Republican chairman of the House Ethics Committee and made sure DeLay could never be investigated again.
"I am calling on Speaker Hastert and Ethics Committee Chairman Doc Hastings to restore credibility and fairness to the Ethics committee, in order to hold Tom Delay accountable. I'm calling on Speaker Hastert to reverse the ethics committee rules they changed. The rules must be restored to ensure strong ethical standards for every member of Congress.
"This behavior continues the reckless Republican abuse of power that has become their trademark and proves they will stop at nothing to protect their own. If Republicans don't like the rules, they change them.
"Restoring the ethics rules is the only way we can have a full and fair accounting of the facts."
Like great captains of the past,
who were willing to risk their ship for economic gain,
I'm predicting the Republicans will "stay the course." Does anyone else have a prediction?
