Absurdist NRCC Ad: Dem Who Was Never in Congress Voted Against Body Armor
The latest RNCC ad in Pennsylvania's 6th House race between Rep. Gerlach and challenger Lois Murphy has been pulled by the Comcast cable system as being inaccurate. The ad accuses Murphy of opposing providing body armor to troops in Iraq. The ad includes a written reference to House vote 669 on 12/19/05. The only problem is that Murphy never served in Congress and therefore never voted on the bill.

Furthermore, the Repubs are basing their claim on the fact that Murphy said she is against oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Because that particular bill tried to tie drilling in the Refuge with body armor, if she opposed drilling, she also opposed body armor. (FYI - The Senate refused to go along with the pairing of the two matters, and the body armor bill then passed both houses).

Source of facts: the following Oct. 3, 2006 Phila. Inquirer article:

The RNCC is running similar ads in many contested House races. Many say that Dems want to raise the taxes of the middle class because they oppose the Estate Tax abolition.

1. It's still running in Philadelphia
I'm in Philly on business every week and this commercial is disgusting. I saw it just this morning so not every station has pulled it yet. I'm not positive but I believe I've been seeing it on the local NBC affiliate. All of the RNCC ads I'm seeing here totally distort every candidates' positions and although I'm not surprised at their tactics there are probably a lot of people who buy this crap.
